The Times of the Gentile Nations Ruling the World.

5 World Rulers (The Great Image of Dan. 2)

Babylon, Medes & Persians, Greece, Rome, ..........................................................................................................................Global Govt.

600 B.C. ..................................................B.C./A.D. .................................................................................4 Super Powers (Dan. 7)............

2 Errors

Dan. 2 Interpreting the final Ruler as the Revived Roman Empire.

Dan.7 Interpreting this vision as a repeat of Dan. 2.

The Great Image Vision.
(Daniel 2)

 • The Head – Babylon
 • The Chest & Arms – Medes &Persians
 • The Thighs – Greece
 • The Legs – Rome
 • The Feet – The Final Gentile World Government.

HISTORIC - The first 4 kingdoms have come & gone. They are historic.

ALL WORLD RULERS - The first 4 kingdoms were all world rulers in their time.

SUCCESSIVE RULE - Each ruler followed the other till there will be a final World Government.

The Four Beasts Vision. (Daniel 7)

CONTEMPORARY – These kingdoms were yet to arise in Daniel`s time. (Dan.7:17)

EACH POWERFUL – They are all powerful rulers. (Dan. 7:3)

ALL AT THE SAME TIME – These powers are all operating at the same time. (Dan. 7: 7 & 12)

FOUR SUPER POWERS

In Daniel`s vision (Ch.7) he saw 4 winds of heaven stirring up the Great Sea. These are 4 spirits of the heavens which go forth & operate in the realm of the predominant ruling powers of the world.

Daniel spoke saying, “I saw in my vision by night, & behold, The four winds (spirits) of heaven were stirring up the Great Sea. And four great beasts came up from the sea, each different from the other.” (Dan. 7: 2 & 3)

Hebrew word Rauwach, is spirit, wind.

From these emerge the 4 Super Powers arising in the world today. Three have arisen & one is still to have its full manifestation.

These great beasts, which are four, are four kings which shall arise out of the earth. (Dan. 7: 17 K.J.)

These 4 power blocs or Confederacies all have their own sphere of political power. As we study each one it becomes quite clear who they are & what area they control.

Then as we watch & study world events we will see how these main players, are putting together their global plan. Yet, we can be assured that God is overall, He has foretold these events in His word & He has the Time Frame for the Judgement of the nations.

1. LION – The British Commonwealth & America.

`The first (beast) was like a lion, & had eagle`s wings.` (Dan. 7: 4)

Here we have a super power like a Lion with Eagle`s wings.

The Lion is the symbol of Royal Sovereignty. (King/Queen)
The Eagle is the symbol of Imperial Power. (Empire)

The British Empire controlled one-fifth of the world in the 19th Century.

`...its wings were plucked off;.... & a man`s heart was given to it.` (Dan. 7: 4)

At first the British Empire was a powerful beast, imperialistically conquering, dominating & colonising. Then we see a remarkable change. The different colonies are each given the right to rule themselves, but still coexist as a group. In political language, co-existing in freedom, peace & equality.

America who originally came from the Lion, the British Empire, became totally independent, yet continues to be a dominant & integral part of this powerful confederacy.

2. BEAR – The Russian Confederacy.

And suddenly another beast, a second, like a bear. (Dan. 7: 5)

The bear was the national symbol of the Soviets. They were the next super power to arise in the world. They were called the U.S.S.R. – the United States of Soviet Russia.

It was raised up on one side, & had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. And they said to it: “Arise, devour much flesh.” (Dan. 7: 5)

It certainly devoured country after country, incorporating them into one monolithic dominion, behind the iron curtain. In 1991 there was an uprising in the U.S.S.R. & the former Soviet peoples then separated into their different countries. This change was called by the Russians as Perestroika, meaning restructuring. Elections are held but they are not free, as each country still retains the same philosophy, (Communism) ideology & militaristic ambitions.

The Russian Republic is the dominant force in the Confederacy of nations from the Slovav countries of Eastern Europe to the various Republics along Russia`s southern border.

(And we know that there will be a Russian war against Israel soon. Ez. 38 & 39 )

3. LEOPARD – The European Union.

After this I looked, & there was another (beast), like a leopard,.... (Dan. 7: 6)

The Leopard symbol has a direct connection to Europe, as they were used on their banners & shields in wars.

`The beast also had four heads,.... (Dan. 7: 6)

The four heads on this beast denote a multiplicity of authority or government who are united in a common purpose. Six countries of Europe agreed to a commercial unity of purpose in a common market. However at the time of inauguration, three of these countries, combined their representation & voting, into one entity called Benelux. 4 Heads - France, Germany, Italy & Benelux - (Belgium, Netherlands & Luxembourg)

Dominion was given to it. (Dan. 7: 6)

Each of the foundation countries were defeated & powerless at the conclusion of World War 2. However authority as independent nations was granted by favour of the Allies.

Many countries desire to join the European Union & are working toward being eligible. The latest economic world crisis will cause many countries to restructure their finance & become European dependent.

4. TERRIFING – The Islamic Confederacy

...behold a fourth beast dreadful & terrible, exceedingly strong..... which shall be different from all the other kingdoms, & shall devour the whole earth,.... (Dan. 7: 7 & 23)

This last beast, the Islamic Confederacy, has yet to have its full manifestation. However we can see it rising quickly today. Islam Fundamentalism stretches far across the globe & is the fastest growing force over the past decade.

There is a subtle shift of power underway in the Middle East. An Islamic shock wave, centred in Iraq, is spreading like a ripple from country to country. It will change forever the face of Islam & redraw the map of the Middle East. The rallying cry is “Yes to Islamic unity,” (Arabic media after the Gulf War.)

The Gulf war was the catalyst for the coming together of a new alignment of nations. This is the forming of a confederation of Islamic nations.

`...and the 10 horns that were on its head,.... (Dan. 7: 20)
..The 10 horns are 10 kings who shall arise from this kingdom. (Dan. 7: 24)

Seven of the 10 kings(Emirs) of this Islamic Confederacy that is forming are the leaders of the cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf ,

Saudia Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Oman with Yeman joining soon.

...and another shall arise after them: He shall be different from the first ones, & shall subdue 3 kings. (Dan.7: 24 b)

The 3 areas that are not in this Council are Iraq, Syria & Jordan. This is the former Empire of Assyria. In the near future they will come together for economic reasons. This will eventually be the power base for the leader of the Islamic Confederacy. At the moment the two branches of Islam, Sunni & Shi-ite, have great conflict between them. This polarisation will continue to create tension & turmoil & inhibit this confederacy realising its full potential till this leader emerges & unites them.

` God says, O My people..... do not be afraid of the Assyrian... (Isaiah 10: 24)

After the Russian war with Israel there will be a power vacuum in the Middle East & this Islamic leader will have the opportunity to bring peace, to that region. This will then give him global credibility followed by a quick rise to Global prominence until finally he becomes the World Leader.

Not going to delve into islamic eschatology or what the q'ran says on the board to avoid confusing nonbelievers or starting a giant argument.

The muslims are still waiting for the mahdi (what they call messiah)
If the OWR is islam or a combination of islam and something else, then potentially AC is a muslim.

What if AC can trace his lineage back to both Isaac and Ishmael? hmmm

Are you suggesting an Islamic antichrist?
Yes matt,

We know from scripture where the anti-Christ will arise & what his nationality is. We are also told that he is an Assyrian. Now this is a nationality even today. Andre Agassi, the famous tennis player is of Assyrian descent.

Details of the anti-Christ -

His nationality – Assyrian. (Isa. 31: 8 Micah 5: 5)

The region he comes from – the Ancient Assyrian Empire. (Dan. 11: 35 – 43)

Leader of Ancient Assyrian region - Iraq, Syria & Jordan. (Dan. 7: 8)

Leader of Islamic Federation – 10 kings of Islam. (Dan. 7: 8, Rev. 17: 12)

He rules the world – (Rev. 16: 13 & 14, 19: 19)

Hi Ghoti,

I agree the Muslims are waiting for their messiah to bring them together and declare war.

The 10 kings of Islam get rid of the world`s religions. The A/C is Political and not religious. All people will be made to worship him.

There are no scriptures that say the A/C is a Roman.
Daniel 9:26-27 as @mattfivefour said is just such a scripture.

26 After the sixty-two ‘sevens,’ the Anointed One will be put to death and will have nothing. The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed.

27 He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’ In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And at the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.

The people (Rome) of the ruler who will come (this refers to the AC proven by verse 27 which continues about the AC) will destroy the city. So the angel speaking to Daniel speaks of the Cross around 30-33AD

then immediately jumps forward in time to the destruction of the Temple in 70 AD. This was done by several Roman legions, under control of Rome (the people of the ruler who will come). The point being that the people of the ruler are identified here.

And v 27 clearly establishes that this is the AC as he is the one that will set up the abomination of desolation.

Let's use Agassi as an example since you brought him up.

Agassi according to Wikipedia was born of an Iranian Armenian Assyrian father (3 separate groups right there and if you count the Iranian heritage, multiple just in Iran alone) AND an American mother.

This means that we could describe him by heritage in several different ethnic directions even if we didn't add in his maternal lines.

The passages that describe the AC as The Assyrian don't conflict with the passage from Daniel that identifies him of the people who would destroy the city and the sanctuary.

They simply add further identifying details.

Agassi can be described as Iranian, Armenian, Assyrian AND American. Just one pick from the group does fit, but when we add ALL the ethnic groups we start to have a fuller picture.

So if he was being prophesied about it might read "there will come a tennis player who will be looked upon as the worlds best tennis player in the world for a period of time, you will know him as an American but if you look closely you will find his father is from Iran, and has both Assyrian AND Armenian bloodlines.

So now we are able to spot a man who is considered the best tennis player of his day but we can further narrow it down.

If we didn't include the further details, it would be hard to decide who the prophesied tennis player would be.

What I'm getting at is that the passages that describe the AC as The Assyrian are adding further information. We can add those together with Daniel to form a better picture.

He is both Roman, AND in some sense he is Assyrian.

Not that we will be able to see who that is before the Rapture. Simply that there are a lot of details the Bible gives for the after the rapture crowd of believers- Tribulation Saints to be able to identify him.

The 10 kings of Islam get rid of the world`s religions. The A/C is Political and not religious. All people will be made to worship him.

Worship, by its nature, is religious/religion/spiritual in nature, so the AC's system is religious, as well as political.

islam is both political and religious. sharia is social, political, and religious in nature, and used to oppress and punish non-muslims. Jizya, a tax levied on non-muslims, is ruinous over time. It's 10 percent of one's worth, not an income tax, so non-muslims end up losing homes, property, and possessions, and end up destitute. Dhimmitude is "voluntary" slavery of non-muslims in a muslim society/country. In a muslim country/society, business, government, taxes, commerce, courts, marriage and divorce, property ownership, etc. are all governed by sharia and the q'ran.

When islam takes control, non-muslims (infidels) can convert, die, pay jizya, sell themselves into Dhimmitude, and/or flee. Depending on the circumstances, a non-muslim may only get the choice of convert or die, or may be simply slaughtered/executed.

Yes, however, eventually the worship will only be to the A/C. (Dan. 11: 36 Rev. 13: 15 - 17)

Hi Margery,

Good we can discuss together.

The Roman Empire was judged by God and is no more. Their Gentile Government is gone. Today there are many ethnic peoples in that former region which stretched West and to the East.

So, the people of the ruler to come refers to the region of the former Seleucid dynasty identified as Assyria. Daniel refers to this great empire, the King of the North and the Ptolemaic Dynasty, the King of the South. These regions were of the legacy of Aleander the Great. In Daniel ch. 11 we read of their continual warfare.

Finally, Daniel is directed to jump two thousand years until the time of the End. These two areas would again return to the focus of world attention. Each contending for key leadership of the Arab Countries, to be recognized as the Moslem Messiah.

Already we have witnessed Nasser of Egypt and Qaddafi of Libya striving for this position. God predicted they would fail. And fail they did. Daniel (11: 35 – 43) foretells that eventually, at the `Appointed Time, the King of the North will prevail. Herein is established beyond doubt or controversy, that the final leader of Islam, the Moslem Messiah, will unmistakably appear in the area of the ancient Assyrian Empire; the King of the North. In fact his nationality is specifically confirmed as The Assyrian, by the prophets Isaiah (10: 24 & 31: 8) and Micah (5: 5)

Ancient Assyria consisted of the present-day nations of Iraq, Syria and Jordan. Quite specifically, it is thus documented that, it is from the composite area that this leader will come. These are the three nations who will obviously consolidate in the foreseeable future for a power-base for the forceful Charismatic leader of Islam.

Hi Margery,

Interesting about Andre`s background. Thank you for looking into that. Now we see that Assyrian is the base ethnic group he came from and the land was Mesopotamia, (Iraq, Syria and Jordan)

However, Andre is not a protype of the anti-Christ, merely that his base ethnic group is still with us today.

Actually there is someone who fits all the details of the A/C.

The Natural Origin of The antichrist (from Footsteps of the Messiah, by Arnold Fruchtenbaum, pages 206-212)

As to the natural origin of the antichrist, speculation has centered around his nationality, with the question being whether or not the antichrist will be a Jew.

(a) The antichrist will not be a Jew

Those who believe that the antichrist has to be a Jew do so for several reasons. One reason that is given could be classed as the logical reason. Stated in a syllogism, this argument goes as follows:

Major premise: The Jews will accept the antichrist as the messiah;
Minor premise: The Jews will never accept a gentile as the messiah;
Conclusion: The antichrist will be a Jew.

The argument is that the Jews will accept him as the messiah. The Scriptures make no such claim. While the Bible teaches that Israel enters into a covenant relationship with the antichrist this in no way means that they will accept him as the messiah. Some have stretched this reasoning to say that the Jews would not even enter into a covenant with a gentile. But none of this is valid, for Jews have often entered into covenant relationships with non-Jews in the past. But this logical reason also fails to view the whole issue. It could be asked another way: how would the gentiles accept him if he is a Jew? So the logical reason could be used either way, and it is not valid in and of itself. The argument for his Jewishness based on this kind of logic is not valid. It is an argument based on two assumptions, neither of which is able to stand on its own. Furthermore, the final analysis as to whether something is true cannot be based on logic, but on Scripture. The ultimate question isn not, “Is it logical?” but, “Is it scriptural?” The assumption necessary for the logical reason cannot be validated by Scripture.

Another reason people often give for the Jewishness of the antichrist is based on Revelation 7:1-8. Stated as a syllogism, this argument would read as follows:

Major premise: The tribe from which the antichrist would come would not be listed among the 144,000;
Minor premise: Dan is not among the 144,000;
Conclusion: The antichrist is from the tribe of Dan.

The folly of such reasoning should be clear to anyone holding to a literal interpretation of Scripture. First of all, it is an argument of conjecture. If the interpreter is at all honest, he would have to admit that he really does not know why Dan is left out of the 144,000. The Bible nowhere spells out why Dan is excluded. If the reason is what the proponent of this view says it is, then it should be explained why an entire tribe is punished because of one man. Furthermore, why is Dan included in the Millennial Israel (Eze 48:1) if there is a curse on him? Assuming information where the Bible is silent is a danger to sound hermeneutics. This argument also involves circular reasoning. To repeat the syllogism:

Major premise: The tribe from which the antichrist would come would not be listed among the 144,000;
Minor premise: Dan is not among the 144,000;
Conclusion: The antichrist is from the tribe of Dan.

From this syllogism another is developed:

Major premise: The antichrist is from the tribe of Dan;
Minor premise: Dan is a Jewish tribe;
Conclusion: The antichrist is a Jew.

Or they can be stated another way:

1) The antichrist is a Jew;
2) The tribe from which the antichrist would come would not be listed among the 144,000;
3) Dan is not among the 144,000;
4) The antichrist is from the tribe of Dan;
5) Dan is a Jewish tribe;
6) The antichrist is therefore a Jew.

No matter how it is put, this is purely circular reasoning, the truth of which is dependent upon the truth of the presupposition. While circular reasoning is consistent within itself, the consistency does not make it scriptural. The presupposition of circular reasoning has no proof on which to base this doctrine.

The scriptural text used most often for the Jewishness of the antichrist is found in Daniel 11:37, which in the King James version reads as follows:

Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all.

The whole argument rests on the phase, the God of his fathers, which is taken to be clear-cut evidence that the antichrist is a Jew. It should be pointed out, however, that the argument for the Jewishness of the antichrist from this verse is based upon the King James version. But even if it is granted (and it is not) that the King James is the correct translation from the original, the phrase “God of his fathers” need not be used exclusively of the Jews. The phrase “God of his fathers” allows for a wider interpretation. For instance, he could be a person who had Christian parents but rejects their God in this sense. It could refer to a roman catholic or a pagan just as easily as to a Jewish person. The one phrase where the term “antichrist” is used in 1 Jon 2:18-19 refers to those who apostatize from Christianity and not from Judaism.

Ultimately, Bible doctrine should be based on the Hebrew and Greek texts since they are the closest to the original autographs. To base a doctrine on a translation, especially when that translation is known to contain error, is folly. This is exactly the case with the King James rendering of Daniel 11:37. Any student of Hebrew would see from the original text that the correct translation should be: “the gods of his fathers,” and not “the God of his fathers.” In the whole context, Daniel 11:36-39, the term god is used a total of eight times. In the Hebrew text six of these times it is in the singular and twice in the plural, one of which is the phrase in verse 37. The very fact that the plural form of the word “god” is used in a context where the singular is found in the majority of cases makes this a reference to heathen deities and not a reference to the God of Israel.

Moreover, there is much external evidence to show that this is the correct rendering of the text. The earliest known translation of the Old Testament is the Septuagint (LXX), which is a Geek translation of the Old Testament made about 250 B.C. The LXX has translated the word as “gods,” which is inn keeping with the Hebrew text. Further evidence that the King James version is incorrect in its translation here is seen in the fact that almost all other English translations, both from Jewish, and non-Jewish sources, have rendered the word for “god” in the plural. Two major Jewish translation, the Jewish Publication Society of America and the Isaac Leeser translation, have rendered the phrase “the gods of his fathers.” In Christian translations–suck as the American Standard Version, the Revised Standard Version, the Amplified Old testament, the New American Standard, and the New International Version, among others–have all translated the phrase to read the gods of his fathers. Furthermore, the New Scofield Reference Bible, itself based o the King James Version, has done a great service to scholarship by rendering this passage to read in the plural form. Commentaries based on the Hebrew rather than the English text recognized the correct reading of Daniel 11:37. This is true of the official Orthodox Jewish commentary in the Soncino Commentary on the Old Testament, as well as the prominent Christian commentary in the Kiel and Delitzsch Commentary.

All this evidence shows that Daniel 11:37, the chief argument used by proponents that the antichrist is to be a Jew, gives no validity to this belief. A doctrine of such magnitude must not be based solely on the King James Version as is this one. It has been shown that even if the King James Version were correct, it would not limit the expression to Jews, but it would be valid for believers as well. However, the truth is that the text is dealing with heathen deities and not with the Jewish Jehovah. If anything, this passage implies that the antichrist will be a Gentile rather than a Jew.

(b) The antichrist Will Be a Gentile

It has been shown that the Bible does not teach that the antichrist is to be a Jew. This raises the question: do the Scriptures plainly teach that the antichrist is to be a Gentile? The answer is that they do. This is seen to be true from biblical typology, biblical imagery, and the nature of the Times fo the Gentiles.

That the antichrist is to be a Gentile is seen first by looking at biblical typology. The only biblical type of the antichrist is given in the person the Antiochus Epiphanes, a Gentile. The reason is that the antichrist himself is to be a Gentile.

Another argument for the Gentile nature of the antichrist is found in biblical imagery. Whenever the word sea is used symbolically in the Scriptures, especially in the Book of Revelation, it is a symbol of the Gentile nations. Since the Beast in Revelation 13:1-10 arises out of the sea, and since the sea represent the Gentile nations (Rev 17:15), this points to the antichrist as being of Gentile origin.

But the key to his Gentile nationality is to be found in the nature of the Times of the Gentiles. It is agreed by most Premillennialists that the Times of the Gentiles does not end until the Second Coming of the Messiah. It is further agreed that the antichrist is the final ruler of thee Times of the Gentiles (extended information on this was presented in Chapter 2, The Times of the Gentiles). If this is so, how then can a Jew be the last ruler when only the Gentiles can have the pre-eminence? To say that the antichrist is to be a Jew contradicts the very nature of the Times of the Gentiles. A Jew heading up the final world throne of Gentile power is an impossible postulation. So while arguments from typology and imagery are not strong by themselves, when coupled with the clear scriptural teaching of the nature of the Times of the Gentiles, they can be powerful evidence that the antichrist is to be a Gentile.

© The antichrist Will be of Roman Origin

But not only does the Bible reveal that fact that the antichrist is to be a Gentile, it also reveals the very nationality of the antichrist. The nationality of the antichrist can be deduced from Daniel 9:26-27:

And after the threescore and two weeks shall the anointed one be cut off, and shall have nothing: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and even unto the end shall be war; desolations are determined. And he shall make a firm covenant with the many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease; and upon the wing of abominations shall come one that makes desolate; and even unto the full end, and that determined, shall wrath be poured out upon the desolate.

The first order of business is to identify the he in verse 27 who makes the Seven-Year Covenant with Israel. The rules of Hebrew grammar must be used to determine this. The fact that in the Hebrew text the third masculine singular is used means that the one must look for an antecedent. The nearest antecedent is the prince that shall come in verse 26. So the he of verse 27 is the same as the prince that shall come of verse 26.

The next order of business is to establish the identity of this prince. It is generally recognized that this prince is the antichrist himself. Daniel used the definite article since he had already spoken of him in chapter seven of his book as the little horn, and again in chapter eight. So then, the prince that shall come is also the he who makes the covenant with Israel, and both have reference to the antichrist. Verse 26 also states that the prince that shall come is of the same nationality as the people who will destroy the city and the Sanctuary. The third step is to establish the nationality of this people, and history has shown that this was accomplished by the Romans in A.D. 70. The obvious conclusion, then, is that the antichrist is a Gentile of Roman origin.

To summarize the argument of the Gentile Roman origin of the antichrist, it could be stated as follows:

1. The he who makes a covenant and the prince that shall come are one and the same person;
2. They both have reference to the antichrist;
3. The antichrist is of the same nationality as the people who destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple;
4. The Romans destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple in A.D. 70;
5. The antichrist, then, will be of Roman origin.

The conclusion is that the antichrist will not be a Jew. Most people who believe that contrary merely assume it without giving any reason. Those who present a logical reason–”How will the Jews accept him if he is not a Jew?”–are reminded that the Bible and not logic is the basis for doctrine, including this one. Those who argue from Revelation 7:4-8 are arguing from conjecture and circular reasoning and not from any clear statement from Scripture. Those who argue from Daniel 11:37 are basing doctrine on a faulty translation fo the Hebrew text.

Not only has it been concluded negatively that the antichrist is not a Jew, but is concluded positively that he is a Gentile, as seen from biblical typology and imagery, along with the very nature of the Times of the Gentiles as presented by the Scriptures. The Bible not only teaches that the antichrist is a Gentile, but it reveals his exact nationality: a Gentile of Roman origin, as seen by a careful study of Daniel 9:26-27.
