The last straw from Trump: Out with paper, back to plastic

President Donald Trump announced that the federal government will go back to using plastic straws.

“I will be signing an Executive Order next week ending the ridiculous Biden push for Paper Straws, which don’t work. BACK TO PLASTIC!,” Mr. Trump posted Friday on Truth Social.

The Biden administration had announced plans in July to phase out use of single-use plastics by the federal government for food, packaging and events by 2027, according to The New York Times.

On Saturday, Mr. Trump posted on Truth Social that “Crooked Joe’s MANDATE, ‘NO PLASTIC STRAWS, ONLY PAPER,’ IS DEAD! Enjoy your next drink without a straw that disgustingly dissolves in your mouth!!!”

This is going to strike yet another nerve to Gavin Newsom who has already banned plastic straws and has been working on complete ban of plastic grocery bags.
Governor Nonsense of California makes plastic bags a threat to the environment but he is so senseless that he doesn't think about all of the things made of plastic that goes into the dumps every day that if were to be completely banned for the sake of his mother Earth he worships, it would be impossible in his lifetime to end the use of plastics that are not biodegradable.
No wonder the left is now turning to support pets to cope with Trump's executive orders. Really. They are. It was in last week's news reports.

We used to drink out of the glass . . . :tap:

Straws were only for heavier things, like malts, milkshakes, and sodas (ice cream in something carbonated)
When I was a kid, straws were heavy paper/light cardboard. The good ones had wax on them so you could finish your malt or milkshake before it came apart.

Then came straws that had a crinkly bend to them

Then came plastic

Then came the move to (plastic) straws and paper cups, with or without a plastic or wax coating inside that ruins the taste of whatever's in the cup

While in the Chula Vista area last October, the one restaurant that we went to, and we went twice, gave us plastic straws and we didn't even have to ask for them. I was pleasantly surprised.

Which country were you raised in? *maisey*

I honestly don't remember what straws were made of when I was young, but I do believe restaurants were handing out straws even back then.

Nowadays when a waitress brings my drink, sets it on the table and rushes off, and there is no straw, I get miffed. I've asked myself why it even matters but I then decide it only matters that I want a straw when dining out. I'm used to it and want it.

We only got to go out a couple times a year when I was a kid: Carroll House restaurant for breakfast the day we came back from the summer house, and Ember's when we got back to the Twin Cities the same day. Some summers, we went out to a fish boil or ice cream once while at the summer house. Fortunately, the Viking also served yummy roasted chicken at the fish boil :) The first time I ordered off the adult menu at Ember's I got a BACON cheeseburger, which Dad hadn't seen (he got really mad, too)

Mom took us to "Supper Car" (drive-in) a few times when Dad was on tour. I got spanked every time for the messes my younger siblings made in the car, and was glad when Mom got tired of cleaning the car and yelling at/spanking me for not doing a good job cleaning (I was too young/inexperienced to do it so no sign of any mess remained), so she stopped taking us there.

I was one of 8 kids. I forget how often my parents went out, but it was either once a month or once a quarter. They'd take two kids with them when they went out. We all knew the schedule and when it was our turn. We often went to the town's Sizzler restaurant where they had the sawdust on the floor back then, or a Straw Hat pizza place. Those are the two that I remember. What a treat it was to go out to eat with my parents.

I joined Dad on tour on the east coast once (leave after a leadership school), and we had to eat out every meal. It was nice to spend time as an adult with him back then, and he got to show me his favorite restaurants and other places in Sarasota, Daytona Beach, NYC, and Washington DC :) Back stage, etc. and meeting some interesting people was really
