Mystery NJ drones are coming from Iranian mothership offshore, congressman suggests: ‘Should be shot down’

A New Jersey congressman claimed Wednesday that the mystery drones over the Garden State are from Iran, and they’re being launched by a mothership parked off the East Coast.

Rep. Jeff Van Drew, a Republican, said the drones “very possibly could be” from Iran, citing confidential sources during an appearance on Fox News Wednesday morning.

“I’m going to tell you the real deal. Iran launched a mothership that contains these drones,” Van Drew said. “It’s off the East Coast of the United States of America. They’ve launched drones.”

When I go look at the online map which is not accurate as people have the ability to put in as many so called level changes as they choose there is not but I see only 3 places showing any elevation in radiation levels and those are not all that much at this time 8 am PST 12-27-2024.

and wonder if any elevation is from radar tracking said alleged drones, aircraft, etc.?
or extra aircraft activity and newbies playing with new toys, etc., due to the holidays?

So much hysteria, exaggeration, and desperate-to-be-part-of-the-party liars, that it reinforces the idea that not much online can be trusted.

Actual radar would depend on the sensitivity levels. Given the smaller size many drones especially those of a commercial toy nature would not likely show up. As for elevation, not that people pay attention to FAA limits like they should most toy version are physically limited to the distance from the controller, that is the transmitters are not very powerful over say a hundred feet or so. Some better commercial ones can be flown at longer distances both horizontally and vertically but those are more expensive not what kid's toy version fly at.

You are onto what I am thinking which is the hysteria and exaggeration aspects of the many reports. As some are finally pointing out that are reporting it in the news a lot of times many reports are nothing more than miss identification of actual aircraft especially in the dark when they can only see the lights. Since various aircraft have different light patterns based on their style and size from small private fixed wing, small helicopter to lager planes, to commercial flights there are various light patterns that can be seen as well as things like landing lights if you are close to an air field that many don't know show only at times of landing but not during flight.

All this goes back to the fact that suddenly with the internet people are seeing things they never noticed before and now think it strange because the internet is saying it is with hyped story lines. It is in reality what was always out there but they never paid attention to before. So they are not familiar and automatically assume they are seeing some strange phenomena. Nope just things that have been there for years but they never bothered to take notice of.

Some years back I took my son across the mountains to the open desert lands to spend a night out with the telescope. While we got to see things like Jupiter clear enough to make out the many lines, mars looking like a large round brick red ball what we really got to see were a lot of satellites, shooting stars and many high flying trans oceanic flights so far up we could not even hear them. We could have claimed to see all kinds of UFOs if we wanted but why. There was nothing we saw that night we did not know what it was. It was a great father son night, we made coffee on a camping stove, had snacks to eat, even made breakfast of sausage and egg as the sun start to rise so we could see the early morning planets close to the sun, Venus and Mercury. There was a lot to see and some of it would have appeared strange if we were not aware of what it was when we were looking at it. That is what I think many alleged sightings are now, normal things that people are not familiar with because they never took the time to observant and learn what is already out there to see even before drones came into existence.

@Shinobi had you heard any news or rumors the a Coast Guard patrol near NJ had been followed by several drones? It would have been a few weeks ago.
No I have not. I got to the story kind of late as the first ones I saw I just skimmed and thought it was a fluke and go away so I ignored it. I just figured people not familiar with all that flies were seeing and claiming to see things they were just not familiar with. If I am not mistaken Coast Guard may have authority to shoot down things when out on the ocean. Back when 9/11 broke and a lot of us Reservist got called up to provide physical proper security we were not even issued weapons but the Coast Guard near our water front facility would use our pier to launch from and they had Ma-deuces on tripods and live ammo. I asked if they had authority to shoot any time. I was told only if fired upon otherwise they had to call in for authority if they felt it was necessary. This was while the patrolled Puget Sound. I could be wrong about that as it has been well over 20 years and rules may have changed since then.

They do pack, I think as low as an E4.

I guess the info I saw on that was just another wild speculation.

What I was speaking of was what they had set up in the Zodiacs they were using. I did not pay that much attention to what they were carrying but yeah some had side arms on them. It was the .50 cal machine guns that got our attention at the pier. We were a little upset as we were not even allowed to draw side arms much less rifles a to do our security work. But then I had an hour drive to get to my unit and in those days I would go stay for the week or weekend so I was armed with a pistol and a rifle in my vehicle. My CSM when I asked him what they expect us to do if people come shooting, he just smiled and said consider those we requested to provide secuirty. Everyone on of them was capable and ready if they needed to be which is why we got called. I then understood my old redneck Commander and CSM picked certain of us because we would be able to actually defend if necessary. It never happened thankfully but we could have handled it. I was just angry because I know the Army would not had reimbursed me for any ammo I might have had to expend but there would be no one getting on the pier from the land side and not likely from the water side either.

Even so, we had to pass the CG building on the way to the pier and their people were walking around with slinged older M16s. We got nothing. Some times I wonder how we as a military won so many conflicts. The military often times does the dumbest things.

This is the story on the rumors you are talking about.....

Coast Guardsman says White House is ‘making sh-t up’ after his vessel was tailed by fleet of drones
There are some very irate Coast Guardsmen down in Barnegat Light, New Jersey.

Federal officials have shrugged off accounts from U.S. Coast Guard members that their 47-foot-long rescue vessel was trailed by a fleet of 12 to 30 drones while patrolling the Atlantic Ocean earlier this month — and that’s not sitting well with the sailors who witnessed the mystery swarm.

“It’s the implication that’s insulting,” said the Coast Guard member, who spoke on condition of anonymity. “It’s implying we’re making sh-t up, when the ones making up sh-t are down in Washington, D.C.”

The sailor spoke to The Post days after the FAA imposed temporary flight restrictions over parts of New Jersey and New York. He said he was one of the 12 crewmembers on the boat that night.
“I’m terrible with measurements, but [the swarm] was about 80 to 100 feet above us. They had four propellers. Seven feet across. The flashing lights, like you’ve seen. The festive green, red, and white lights.”

"Seven feet across", that's no toy drones 🤔

While these sailors may be truthful in what they saw, I have to admit that if I was one of those Federal Officials I might have shrugged them off too, only because in reading the statement from the sailors who spoke with The New York Post, his recounting his story made me skeptical when he said he had been

"trailed by a fleet of 12 to 30 drones...."

Now estimating the number of drones at 12 to 30, has quite a big gap between the 12 and 30.
12 to 15 I can see using that as an estimation, but 30 drones are unmistakenly a very much larger fleet than 12 and it possibly be 15, because with using an estimation number it's understandable to add a few or subtract a few because you would be much closer to the number even if you're off by a few
Defining few is a small number.
So making a distinction it's not possible to be even close to accuracy with such a big gap between 12 and 30.
It's not convincing.

Thanks for finding that Rose!

From the article:
The drone swarm kept pace with the Department of Homeland Security vessel, which was cruising at “around 20 knots, which is just over 20 miles an hour.”

The Guardian said the drones eventually climbed “maybe another 100 feet” and then “banked left, towards the shoreline” and out of sight.

“Commercial airplanes don’t move like that,” he said. “I’ve been out there [on the water] when planes were coming in for landings in New York, and trust me, you can tell the difference. We’re not idiots, we know what drones look and sound like.”

Good question.

It does describe them as having synchronized movement. I’ve never seen 7-ft wide drones but I’m sure that if the drones were adjusting elevations in the swarm they would be really hard to count from the boat.

Sometimes, the Army issues weapons WITHOUT AMMO for real-world:headbang:
Generally only in garrison.
The thinking being that a Soldier with a weapon looks more intimidating than without.
Nope, just a Soldier to be targeted first.
Plus a weapon to clean (again).

The last time they issued an M16 to me without ammo for other that training/maintenance, I fixed bayonet.
That was the last time they failed to issue ammo to my Soldiers and me for real-world :big grin;

If I had a .45, I was always issued ammo.
Ditto shotgun.

I've heard several eye witnesses say that the drones were the size of a SUV or small Truck. That's Big.
It got silent about the drones for some days. I guess whoever was maneuvering them went home for Christmas 🤣

FBI investigating ‘cluster of large drones’ spotted near Trump’s New Jersey golf course

A cluster of large drones spotted flying over central New Jersey — including near a military base and President-elect Donald Trump’s Bedminster golf course — has sparked a federal investigation as well as new flight restrictions for the region.

The collection of “what look to be drones and a possible fixed wing aircraft” have been spotted around the Raritan River, “dating back several weeks,” FBI spokeswoman Amy J. Thoreson told Patch.

According to officials, they appear to be larger than drones typically used by hobbyists, sparking concern given their proximity to Donald Trump’s National Golf Club in Bedminster and the Picatinny Arsenal Military Base in Rockaway.

Local police have said there is no known threat to public safety at this time.
The Federal Aviation Administration said it first received reports of unauthorized drone activity on Nov. 18. As a result, the agency has barred drones from flying over the president-elect’s golf course from Nov. 22 through Friday. Drones were also forbidden from flying near the military base starting on Nov. 25 through Dec. 26. Both of the bans come at the request of federal security partners, according to Patch.

This may have nothing to do with the drones, or then again it might; but I am very nervous about the inauguration. I know God is in charge one hundred percent and whatever He permits will be for His perfect purposes. But, given the content and context of threats made against our new president, both internally and externally to the United States, I do admit to a certain amount of worry as we approach that date.

Why, because of the USAF, of course! *maisey*
Well as much flak as we other branches give the USAF there is a ton of truth in what you say. All the other branches whether they like it or not have their own aircraft because without them battles don't always go so good. A troop on the ground in the middle of a bad fire fight calls first and foremost for air support and that is what sees them through. We may joke about other branches but they end up having to work together to get the job done. No one of them can survive alone.
