God’s Promise To Bless Those Who Bless Israel Is Still Valid Today; What Side Are You On?

Almost Heaven

Well-known
The question is often asked by skeptics and by faithful Christians alike: Why Israel?

The answer is not obvious to a casual observer. Abram was not from a large or powerful family, but a clan of idol-worshippers. Isaac and Jacob were not exceptional among the ancients, and the sons of Jacob—with the exception of Joseph—were a rag-tag bunch, to say the least.

God Himself made it clear that there was nothing outwardly worthy in the children of Israel: “The LORD did not make you His beloved nor choose you because you were greater in number than any of the peoples, since you were the fewest of all peoples, but because the LORD loved you and kept the oath which He swore to your forefathers” (Deuteronomy 7:7-8).

Far from circular reasoning, God’s explanation settles once and for all that He chose to love them. Because He did, he made an oath to the forefathers—sworn by His own Name. And, having made an oath, God’s character guarantees the fulfillment of His promises, as the next verse in Deuteronomy makes clear: “Know therefore that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His faithfulness to a thousand generations for those who love Him and keep His commandments” (Deuteronomy 7:9).

The same verse also makes clear that His righteous indignation is directed against those who hate Him. Also, His wrath is invoked against those who despise those He has chosen to love.

Whose Side Are You On?

Since the time of the Patriarchs, there has been a clear line of demarcation between those who love the Lord and those who reject Him and flaunt their unrighteousness. Similarly, God weighs nations based on their attitude toward Israel. Bless the apple of His eye and be blessed; curse those He has lavished with His love (even impudently saying, “Aha” when He disciplined His chosen people) and be cursed (Ezekiel 25:2-3, 7).

In recent years, the battle lines have become clearer. Entire nations have dedicated themselves to the eradication of Israel—by which they mean the nation, the people, and the Land. Satanically inspired nations such as Iran and terrorist groups like Hamas have launched murderous attacks time after time, but their efforts will never succeed. They will do great harm and cause much pain and suffering, but God has promised to preserve Israel in order that a great remnant will cry out to Him just prior to Jesus returning to reign on the Earth.

Sadly, in the midst of this cosmic battle, many Christians sit idly on the sidelines. Indoctrinated to believe that God shifted His focus from Israel to the Church, they are ambivalent to the political and spiritual maneuvers that beset the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. But God is certainly not done with them. His promise to bless those who bless Israel is still valid today because all His promises are eternally “Yes, and Amen.”

So, why Israel? Because God has lavished His love on the Land, the nation, and the people. And, because, even now, they represent the greatest sign that our Jewish Messiah is at the gates of Heaven, ready to come and collect His Bride.

Amen. Although i do think it is good to keep in mind that just like (I can only speak for America in the sense of experience), that even though there is a huge evangelical population that is not reformed in the US, there are many churches that in some way or another have adopted or just had not clarified a way out of some of the teachings and viewpoints of American Reformed beliefs. And just as a lot of that style of reformed thought would not be so recognized in much of evangelicalism, there will be views held in various churches that would have reformed underpinnings likely unawares.

In like fashion, I would want to say that it would be good to consider as well that differing shades of how to understand Israel will vary. And as much as one whom even in the thick of reformed thought would say, "The biggest sign of Christ coming soon is the return of Israel." And i said that having no idea why...lol. It just seemed right. Maybe it was shared in some of the circles at my reformed church (for we did hold to Israel having a separate and distinct plan with God in the tribulation--which is not overly common in American Reformed camps). I believe I understood that from Ez 37, but would just be guessing. Not really having studied it all that much.

But i just bring this up because I believe there are a lot of churches and believers that have no idea how to process Israel. I guess this would be an encouragement to just be mindful that many that hold of view dismissive of Israel may likely have no clue on their views, or if do, may be more a seasoned result of some form of indoctrination. And that many would likely be in gray areas with more conviction than understanding. And that there likely will be plenty of opportunity in the future to see how Israel fairs as a way of discussion with those who hold different views on that.

I think it is great in posts like this to clarify differences and call attention to allegiances. Amen. But many who hold others views will in ways likely have defenses up...believing their own convictions also to be true. I guess i am of the school of the longsuffering approach. Likely because i would see the battle of belief to be won most profoundly along the lines of helpful instruction and care. Perhaps as much or even more than refining or securing our own positions/confictions. I just say that because i know there is a lot of confusion in many places out there. And since there is a "divide," we can be "gatherers" in that. Amen. Blessings.

Our focus is supposed to be on Christ, not a nation of unrepentant jews. If a jew believes on the Lord Jesus Christ, he/ she becomes part of the sheepfold. That's the only way. And they need to do it now because time is running out.

Actually, we are grafted into Israel. They aren't grafted into us. They are the natural branches. We are not. You are treading on dangerous ground, my friend. You might want to humble that pride. True love for Israel world manifest itself in loving concern for the people, not proud condemnation. You might want to reread Romans 11:17-29.

17
But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and have become a fellow-partaker of the fatness of the root of the olive tree, 18 do not boast over the branches. And if you boast against them, you do not support the root, but the root you.
19 You will say, then, “Branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in.” 20 Rightly so: They were broken off by the unbelief, but you stand by faith. Do not be high minded, but be afraid. 21 For if God did not at all spare the natural branches, neither will He spare you.
22 Behold therefore the kindness and severity of God: severity indeed upon those having fallen, but kindness of God toward you, if you continue in the kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off. 23 And even they, if they do not continue in unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. 24 For if you were cut off out of the naturally wild olive tree, and contrary to nature were grafted into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, the natural, be grafted into the own olive tree!
25 For I do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, of this mystery, so that you may not be wise in yourselves: A hardening in part has happened to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles may come in. 26 And so all Israel will be saved, as it has been written: “The One Delivering will come out of Zion, He will remove ungodliness from Jacob. 27 And this is the covenant from Me to them, when I shall take away their sins.” 28 For as regards the gospel, they are enemies on account of you; but as regards election, beloved on account of the patriarchs. 29 For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.

My neighborhood was a quarter Jewish, the churches I attended always spoke with reverence toward Israel and the Jewish people, and many of the people Dad worked with were Jewish, so I grew up loving and respecting Israel and the Jewish people :) I was very blessed to serve in the Multinational Forces and Observers (MFO) and spend significant time in Israel :)
