Trump agrees to 2-week ceasefire if Iran opens Strait of Hormuz

Andy C

Well-known
President Donald Trump on Tuesday announced that, based on conversations with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, he will delay the "bombing and attack of Iran" for two weeks.

Trump said the decision came after the leaders requested the U.S. "hold off the destructive force being sent tonight to Iran," which the president previously threatened would start at 8 p.m. eastern time if a deal was not reached.

The president said the postponement is subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to "the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz."

"This will be a double sided CEASEFIRE!" Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. "The reason for doing so is that we have already met and exceeded all Military objectives, and are very far along with a definitive Agreement concerning Longterm PEACE with Iran, and PEACE in the Middle East."

He added the administration received a 10-point proposal from Iran, and officials "believe it is a workable basis on which to negotiate."

"Almost all of the various points of past contention have been agreed to between the United States and Iran, but a two week period will allow the Agreement to be finalized and consummated," Trump wrote. "On behalf of the United States of America, as President, and also representing the Countries of the Middle East, it is an Honor to have this Longterm problem close to resolution."

I am relieved for the cease fire. I have been following this operation (not war) from the beginning, and it seems all our objectives have been accomplished, ie: halting their Nuclear program, Regime change/decimated, giving the Iranian people a chance to take their country back, and opening and securing the Strait of Hormuz. This is a good time for USA to exit IMO. The World has witnessed what America is capable of, so we should get out and the Countries that benefit from the oil flow should step up and keep it secure. Just my .02 cents.

On down in the same article. Maybe the cease fire is just with the U.S., or some didn't get the memo yet.

Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates are reporting fresh attacks from the Iranian regime on Wednesday, just hours after President Donald Trump reached a 2-week ceasefire deal with Tehran.
A Kuwait defense ministry spokesperson said the country has been pushing back against “an intense wave of hostile Iranian criminal attacks”, intercepting 28 drones.
“The Kuwaiti Armed Forces succeeded in intercepting a large number of hostile drones, some of which targeted vital oil facilities and power stations in the south of the country, resulting in significant material damage to oil infrastructure facilities, power stations, and water desalination plants,” the spokesperson added.
Across the Strait of Hormuz, in the United Arab Emirates, its defense ministry said Wednesday that the UAE's “air defenses are currently engaging with missile and drone attacks originating from Iran.”
“The Ministry of Defense confirms that the sounds heard in various parts of the country are the result of the UAE air defense systems intercepting ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones,” it also said.

Seems Iran still has quite a supply of missiles/drones ☹️
They have had decades to hide weapons, but we have accomplished is severely hampered their ability to make more.

As in most conflicts, when a cease fire is announced, not all battlefield commanders get the word, and some violations could occur. This is especially true for Iran where their ability to communicate throughout their country has been limited. However, it will quickly become apparent by our intelligence when they are flagrantly violating the cease fire, a devastating mistake for them. Bombs away.

A pause with opposing terms: What Washington wanted, what Tehran demanded

The details are still incomplete, but the positions Tehran and Washington have publicly tied to the ceasefire suggest not a shared settlement so much as a temporary halt layered over unresolved hostilities.

The precise texts are still only partly visible. The White House never publicly confirmed the full contents of the US 15-point proposal, saying only that some reporting had “elements of truth” but was “not entirely factual,” while Iranian state and semi-official media published a far more detailed public account of Tehran’s own terms.

Still, enough has emerged to show how far apart the two sides remain.

Public reporting on the US proposal described a plan centered on rolling back Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities, curbing support for allied armed groups and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s 10-point plan pointed in the opposite direction. It sought recognition of enrichment, sweeping sanctions relief, compensation, continued influence over Hormuz, US military withdrawal from the region and an end to attacks on Iran and its allies.

If the USA isn't done with Iran there might be unsaid reasons for creating a false two week pause. Maybe replenishing supplies, armaments, etc, giving a little rest to overworked warfighters, etc.

Israel's warfighters haven't had a break for a very long time. The Lord must be sustaining them.

Iran still has an offensive capability despite a greatly diminished military footprint. Iran still has all that uranium... The USA never promised regime change which in my opinion, hasn't happened. Seems like the Strait is still closed.

Well we know from Scripture that Iran will join Russia and others to attack Israel in EZ38. What we don't know is the timing so Iran will not be completely wiped out nor will they become friendly to Israel however at some point and for some reason Israel will feel safe and comfortable. How it all shakes out we can't know at this point but we do know Iran is not likely to be knocked back to the dark ages.

They could participate with just ground troops.

These next 12 days will be interesting. Iran so far does not appear as wanting to negotiate in reality. Pete Hegseth has said our troops will remain in the area for the foreseeable future. Irans only 2 choices are agree with the USA demands, or face round 2 of more devastating bombings. I guarantee those 5000 Marines in the 2 Marine Expeditionary Units aboard the ships are itching to go in on the ground to secure the enriched uranium, or take over Kharg Island.

I think Trump has to at least go through the efforts of trying to get peace for world political approval. However, his fingers are still hovering above the “go” time switch. Trump truly is in a position of great power over Irans future.

We know through the Word any peace in the ME will not be lasting. That does not mean it cant last for a longer time than we all believe is possible. What we do know is eventually Iran will join with Russia as the lead elements of the EZ 38 prophecy. However, is Russia really at this time while being bogged down with Ukraine, militarily in a true position to try and attack Israel?

How is Iran "closing" the Strait of Hormuz? That area is in International waters. Other than the threat of sending a drone or missile to attack a ship, how can they just say the Strait is closed? Sounds to me like the tail is wagging the dog concerning this. What am I missing?

Considering how close the ships get to Irans coast, they become vulnerable to short range missiles/rockets which are hard to detect, and easy to hide from our “eyes” in the sky. Thats why we dont have any of our war ships in that zone. Some of their rockets could only take a few seconds before they strike a ship, giving our ships less time to respond with defensive weapons.

We have bombed up and down their coastline area, but cant kill all their weapons.
