Putin mobilizes Russian aid after deadly blast at Iran's Bandar Abbas port

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered several emergency planes to be sent to Iran to help extinguish a fire in the port of Bandar Abbas, Russian state-run news agency TASS reported on Sunday.

In an official letter to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian, Putin sent his "deepest condolences regarding the loss of human life and the extensive destruction."

The embassy added that it wished those injured a quick recovery.

Iranian state media reported that a huge blast, probably caused by the explosion of chemical materials, killed at least 18 people and injured more than 700 on Saturday at Bandar Abbas, Iran's biggest port.

Iraq also pledged support to Iran, a statement from the Iraqi government read.

"The Republic of Iraq extends its condolences to the government and people of Iran and expresses its support for them during these painful moments," the release said. "Iraq once again emphasizes the need to strengthen regional and international cooperation to confront urgent challenges and declares its readiness to provide any possible support to mitigate the effects of this disaster."

Several other similarly aligned nations offered support, including Iraq, Bahrain, Oman, and Kuwait.

Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain all released similar statements of condolence, but did not offer support, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency reported.

well if they aren't responsible for this, maybe it's a direct hit from God. I def think Israel may have had a hand in things.

But yes, Israel can't afford to wait, although it sounds like Trump wants to take the lead when Trump decides it's time, so Israel may still be held back, which will end up biting America if they are forcing Israel to sit on their hands.

Yeah, the fact that he knows how it went the last time with Obama, Kerry and Biden - and said it was a mistake- doesn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy and optimistic.

Yep agree, actions is what these people understand and as i think you mentioned a few weeks ago, they have a patience mentality and think different to the west, they will just bide their time and drag things out and do their own thing

Any time they manage to buy is in their favour. As they build their weapons and sidestep any "agreements" they agree to.

From their point of view there is no downside to engaging with the West in these little mind games.

Bonus, if Trump stopped Israel from just dealing with them in the straightforward way that the IDF prefers. Israel has to wait till Trump is ready, and Iran will spin it out as long as possible. Win Win for Iran

Iran’s interior minister blames ‘negligence’ for Bandar Abbas port blast that kills 70​

DUBAI - Iran’s interior minister on April 28 blamed “negligence” for a massive explosion that killed 70 people at the country’s largest commercial port, with firefighters still battling a blaze at the facility two days later.

On April 28, Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni told state TV that “culprits have been identified and summoned”, and that the blast was caused by “shortcomings, including noncompliance with safety precautions and negligence”.

The committee investigating the causes of the blast also made similar remarks.

Mr Momeni, who has been in the area since hours after the blast, said the “investigation is still underway”.

Iran’s ally Russia has dispatched specialists to help battle the blazes.
