Pope Francis: ‘All Religions Are a Path to Reach God’

Archbishop Charles Chaput: No, Pope Francis, Not All Religions Are ‘Paths to God’

ROME — The redoubtable Archbishop Charles Chaput has offered fraternal correction to Pope Francis, urging him to hold to the basic tenets of Christianity.

“Christians hold that Jesus alone is the path to God,” he said. “To suggest, imply, or allow others to infer otherwise is a failure to love.”

“We are called Christians because we believe Jesus Christ is God, the second person of the Trinity,” he stated. “From the beginning of our faith, followers of Christ were unique among world religions because they accepted as true Christ’s extraordinary claim that he is God.”

“Christians have also always believed that this reality makes Christianity categorically distinct from all other religions, and in turn requires a total commitment of our lives,” he added.

How could the Pope even think about thinking this? One of his ecclesiastical titles is Vicar of Christ
That should be reminder enough, all by itself, of John 14:6

6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
John 14:6, KJV

Bad Pope. Verrrrrrrrrrrrrry baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad Pope :tap:

According to (RCC) Code of Canon Law, Book VI (Penal Sanctions in the Church), Part II (Particular Offences and the Penalties Established for Them), Title I (Offences Against the Faith and the Unity of the Church) (Cann 1364-1369):

Can. 1364— § 1. An apostate from the faith, a heretic or a schismatic incurs a latae sententiae excommunication, without prejudice to the provision of can. 194 § 1 n. 2; he or she may also be punished with the penalties mentioned in can. 1336 §§ 2-4.

§ 2. If a long-standing contempt or the gravity of scandal calls for it, other penalties may be added, not excluding dismissal from the clerical state.

According to RCC Code of Canon Law, Book III (The Teaching Function of the Church):

Can. 751 Heresy is the obstinate denial or obstinate doubt after the reception of baptism of some truth which is to be believed by divine and Catholic faith; apostasy is the total repudiation of the Christian faith; schism is the refusal of submission to the Supreme Pontiff or of communion with the members of the Church subject to him.

Can. 1365— A person who, apart from the case mentioned in canon 1364 § 1, teaches a doctrine condemned by the Roman Pontiff, or by an Ecumenical Council, or obstinately rejects the teaching mentioned in canon 750 § 2 or canon 752 and, when warned by the Apostolic See or the Ordinary, does not retract, is to be punished with a censure and deprivation of office; to these sanctions others mentioned in can. 1336 §§ 2-4 may be added.

Can. 750 §1. A person must believe with divine and Catholic faith all those things contained in the word of God, written or handed on, that is, in the one deposit of faith entrusted to the Church, and at the same time proposed as divinely revealed either by the solemn magisterium of the Church or by its ordinary and universal magisterium which is manifested by the common adherence of the Christian faithful under the leadership of the sacred magisterium; therefore all are bound to avoid any doctrines whatsoever contrary to them.

§2. Each and every thing which is proposed definitively by the magisterium of the Church concerning the doctrine of faith and morals, that is, each and every thing which is required to safeguard reverently and to expound faithfully the same deposit of faith, is also to be firm-ly embraced and retained; therefore, one who rejects those propositions which are to be held definitively is opposed to the doctrine of the Catholic Church.
