"Federal officials discussed Homeland Security’s ongoing immigration enforcement operations in Minnesota on Tuesday and defended their agents’ actions.
Marcos Charles, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) executive associate director of enforcement and removal operations (ERO), and Border Patrol Commander at Large Greg Bovino both slammed Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey for spreading “heated rhetoric.”
But Bovino also called people protesting ICE operations “anarchists.”
It comes amid high tensions and multiple lawsuits over the immigration enforcement surge and federal agents’ conduct.
Homeland Security has said roughly 3,000 people have arrested during “Operation Metro Surge” in Minnesota since it began early last month. However, details about those arrested have been scant."

"By now, you have no doubt seen many of the scenes from Minneapolis: immigration agents demanding proof of citizenship -- even from some American citizens, protesters swarming as agents make arrests, the fatal shooting of
Renee Good by an ICE officer.
This past week, we went to Minneapolis and spoke with two men at the center of the crisis: the chief of police and the head of ICE's deportation operation, both veteran law enforcement officers, with two very different views of what is unfolding.
Tonight, there are 3,000 ICE and Border Patrol agents in the Minneapolis area – that's nearly five times the number of police on the city's force, making it the largest ever deployment of federal immigration officers to an American city.

"Off-duty police officers in the Twin Cities have been "targeted" by federal agents looking for proof of U.S. citizenship, Brooklyn Park Police Chief Mark Bruley said Tuesday.
Bruley was among several law enforcement leaders who
expressed their concerns at a press conference that Operation Metro Surge is leading to "civil rights violations in our streets."
He added that in the last two weeks, as community members have been submitting "endless complaints," that several of the officers in his department had also been stopped by federal law enforcement.
"Every one of these individuals is a person of color," Bruley added.
He recounted a story that one of his officers had told him: she had been off duty when she passed Immigration and Customs Enforcement while going down the roadway. The agents "boxed her in" and "demanded her paperwork," Bruley said."
