Israel launched an attack aimed at assassinating Hamas leaders in Qatar Tuesday morning — just as they met for cease-fire talks in Doha, officials said.

Several blasts were heard erupting in the capital, with plumes of black smoke seen billowing from the city’s Legtaifiya petrol station, witnesses told Reuters.

The attack was primarily aimed at killing Khalil al-Hayya, Hamas’ top Gaza official and lead negotiator, a senior Israeli official told local media outlets.

“Today’s action against the top terrorist chieftains of Hamas was a wholly independent Israeli operation,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said following the attack.

Other sources indicate that there may have been 15 fighter aircraft involved and 12 precision munitions used to strike the building. I guess we'll get more details as the dust settles.

I suspect that anyone inside the hamas building in Doha at the time of the attack is deceased. Israel may have gotten up to all of the hamas leadership that's been hiding out in Qatar for many years now.

Saudi-owned Al Arabiya reported Tuesday that a targeted airstrike in Qatar killed senior Hamas figures Khalil al-Hayya, Zaher Jabarin, and Nizar Awadallah. Former Hamas political bureau chief Khaled Mashaal was not present at the meeting. Other senior officials in attendance included Mohammed Darwish, Mousa Abu Marzouk, and Husam Badran.

The strike, directed by the Israel Defense Forces and the Shin Bet security agency and carried out by the Israeli Air Force, hit the Hamas leadership headquarters in Doha. The operation was code-named "Summit of Fire."

A diplomatic source told Israel Hayom the Hamas leadership had gathered to discuss Washington's latest proposal after rejecting an earlier one, as well as the implications of Israel's expected ground entry into Gaza City. Those present included Mashaal, al-Hayya, Jabarin - who also serves as Hamas' liaison to Iran - Badran, Darwish, Abu Marzouk, and Taher al-Nunu.

The leaders of Hamas live in luxury while the foot soldiers hide in tunnels and the citizens suffer and starve. Qatar’s prime minister warns his country reserves the right to respond to Israel’s deadly attack on Hamas in Doha, calling it a “pivotal moment” for the region, but says his country will continue mediation efforts.

Qatar works with (and for) Iran. They are not a neutral party at all.

I'm glad to see Trump isn't interfering with Israel in this.

This is why his acceptance of that Qatari luxury plane for his new AF1 was such a sticky situation- Iran's puppet Qatar wanted him somewhat beholden to Qatar.

Qatar is always on the side of Hamas, and also the other various muslim factions inside Israel. They fund terrorism.

Iran is always thinking 3 steps ahead, taking the long view, and they wanted to keep Trump beholden to Qatar in case of Israel doing exactly what they just did.
