Israel reportedly considers resuming air strikes in Yemen after Houthis hit Ben Gurion airport, threaten more to come

An unnamed Israeli official reportedly told The Jerusalem Post on Sunday that Israel is considering resuming its military strikes on the Houthis in Yemen after the Iran-backed terror group fired a ballistic missile at Ben Gurion International Airport.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hinted that Israel is considering reversing its current policy of restraint towards the Yemen-based Houthi group.

“We’ve acted against them in the past, and we’ll act again in the future," Netanyahu stated in a video message. "This isn’t a one-and-done, but there will be some big hits.”

The ballistic missile fired by the Houthis on Sunday morning landed close to Ben-Gurion Airport after Israel’s advanced aerial defense systems failed to intercept it. While the impact of the missile was limited, Magen David Adom emergency services reported that several people sustained mild injuries.

The ballistic missile fired by the Houthis on Sunday morning landed close to Ben-Gurion Airport after Israel’s advanced aerial defense systems failed to intercept it. While the impact of the missile was limited, Magen David Adom emergency services reported that several people sustained mild injuries.

Pinchas Idan, chairman of the Airports Authority's Workers' Committee, recalled the highly unusual incident at the airport, noting that it could have resulted in casualties and substantial property damage.

"We all entered the protected areas, there was just a plane that landed. We heard a loud explosion, a boom that was a waste of time. It was close to planes parked there – there was a lot of luck here because there was just a plane in the air,” Idan told Ynet News.

The Houthi rebels openly call for Israel’s destruction and have fired hundreds of missiles and drones against the Jewish state since the Iron Swords War began in October 2023. The war was triggered when the Hamas terror group in Gaza invaded Israel's southern border, killing 1,200 Israelis and kidnapping 251 individuals.

Israel initially viewed the Houthis as a peripheral threat and focused on targeting the nearby Iranian-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza. However, following continued Houthi attacks on Israel, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) began striking Houthi targets in Yemen during the second half of 2024. In its largest operation to date, the IAF targeted multiple Houthi sites, including the Houthi-controlled Yemeni capital, Sana’a, and its airport, in December 2024.

Israel has so far not launched any military operations against the Houthis in 2025. This is likely due to reports that U.S. President Donald Trump asked Israel to let the United States deal with the Houthis while Israel focuses on Hamas and Hezbollah.

In March, Trump announced an ongoing U.S. Air Force bombardment campaign against the Houthis.

The U.S. recently estimated that it has struck some 800 Houthi targets since the military campaign began in mid-March. Washington also reported that it has eliminated hundreds of Houthi terrorists.

The Houthis have continued firing missiles at Israel despite intense U.S. bombings of Houthi targets. However, an unnamed Israeli security official dismissed the Houthi threat as largely a nuisance.

"The fact that they are firing does not mean anything," the Israeli official told the Ynet News outlet. The official praised the American military campaign against the Houthis as “effective.”

"The American operation is very effective. Some Houthis still have the ability to launch, but they are not able to launch many missiles at a time. Most of the launches are intercepted or fall on the way – from Israel's perspective, the Houthi threat is like a pesky fly, mostly.”

The official argued that the U.S. strikes in Yemen are substantial.

"The Americans are doing a good job there; we cannot contribute anything there in an attack," arguing that "every day for this month and a half, the American attacks are about 10 times what we can do in Yemen in a year." This assessment stems from the logistical advantage U.S. fighter jets have in reaching Yemen from nearby aircraft carriers, whereas Israeli jets must travel significantly greater distances to strike Houthi targets.

However, Ben Gurion Airport is considered one of Israel’s most critical assets and the Jewish state cannot afford sustained attacks on its main international travel hub.

"Whoever harms us will be struck sevenfold in return," Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated on Sunday following the Houthi missile attack.

As a result of the attack on the airport, some international airline companies announced that they would suspend all flights to Israel for at least 24 hours.

Senior Houthi official, Mohammed al-Bukhaiti, warned international airline companies against flying to Israel.

"We've proven our ability to deal blows to American, British and Israeli prestige. There are no red lines in our conflict with the Zionist entity, the United States and Britain," al-Bukhaiti told Qatar's Al Araby news outlet.

"Our strike on the Ben Gurion airport is proof of our ability to hit fortified targets inside Israel," he added.

Israel estimated in late March that the Houthis only have a few dozen ballistic missiles left in their stockpile. Reports of heavy Houthi losses from ongoing U.S. airstrikes may explain the group's determination to continue launching missiles as long as it retains any operational capability.

US said it will hold Iran 🇮🇷 responsible for Houthi attacks. Will anything be done now or was it just empty Trump talk?

Ex-defense minister Gantz calls for a strong response in Tehran, 🇮🇷 but WHAT will Israel do next?

Israeli Defense sources say that Israel’s 🇮🇱 Response to the Houthis missile attack on their airport will be very forceful, as Israel faces no restrictions.

BUT…Israel faces a major dilemma: Bombing Yemen 🇾🇪 will have limited impact as the US 🇺🇸 is already engaged in a large military campaign.

🚨 Bombing IRAN 🇮🇷 is much more meaningful, but may disrupt US-Iran talks and requires Trump's approval. What's Netanyahu's next move?

The Houthis in Yemen have launched a total of 33 missiles & drones at Israel since resumption of fighting in Gaza, N12 News reports. Today was the first missile impact during this period.

HOWEVER, PM Netanyahu warns: Israel WILL take action against Iran in response to Houthi missile attacks. But FOR NOW, the IDF plans to strike in Yemen, Kan News reports.

Seeing reports that the Israeli Air Force is indicating that the American THAAD missile system missed the Houthis ballistic missile today, allowing it to hit near the airport.

Not a matter of if but WHEN Israel’s enemies see a breach in Israel’s air defense armor system, they’ll go headfirst into using the fine tuned technology that can overcome Israeli & American technology.

NO BUENO.

Today Iran also unveiled its NEW ‘Qassem Basir’ ballistic missile with a 1,300 km range, claiming that it can penetrate the USA THAAD missile defense system.

VERY Interesting TIMING to release this video & rocket information TODAY, AFTER a similar missile just hit Israel.

Iran has unveiled a new ballistic missile called the Qassem-Bissat, which is effective for a minimum range of 1,200 km and is claimed to be "capable of penetrating the THAAD battery's protective layer."

Iranian Defense Minister Responds to Netanyahu: "If attacked by the US or Israel, Iran will attack their interests, bases, and forces wherever and whenever it sees fit."

Yemeni news: The Houthis evacuated Sana'a International Airport for fear of a response from our forces.

Netanyahu brings up a Trump statement from 6 weeks ago regarding the Houthi attacks. (As a reminder to Trump what he said, and to get Trump to ACT on it with ISRAEL this time)

Netanyahu said, “Attacks by the Houthis emanate from Iran. Israel WILL RESPOND to the Houthi attack against our main airport AND, at a time and place of OUR CHOOSING, to their Iranian terror masters.”

Israel will take action against Yemen in full coordination with the US, Ynet reports. “Israel will attack Yemen with US coordination after today’s ballistic missile attack on Ben Gurion Airport.”

Israeli officials: "the time for restraint is over," Israel preparing direct action against Houthi targets in Yemen. The U.S. has told Israel it will not oppose a response following Sunday’s Houthi missile strike near Ben Gurion Airport. - Ynet

But it’s not the Houthis that Israel wants to attack.
It’s Iran

IDF Investigation Concludes: Yemen Missile Strike Due to 'Localized Technical Failure' in Interceptor

The IDF Spokesperson announced the completion of a preliminary investigation led by the Air Force Commander following this morning's missile strike from Yemen at Ben Gurion Airport. The IDF assessment indicates 'the incident was likely caused by a localized technical failure in the interceptor launched against the missile.' It was further reported that 'initial findings show no failure was detected in the discovery process, operation of interception systems, or civilian warning systems.'

The Yemeni Armed Forces announce imposing an 'air blockade' on Israel by repeatedly targeting Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion airport, “in response to the occupation's escalation by deciding to expand aggressive operations against Gaza.”

THE HOUTHIS ARE THREATENING TO REPEATEDLY START TARGETING BEN GURION AIRPORT.

The Houthis are also threatening every single airline not to fly into/out of Israel or else.

Meanwhile Military analyst General Mounir Shehadeh said, “I see the Israeli strike on Iran, ‘approaching’ with an American green light.”(Soon)

God’s Protective Hand over Ben-Gurion Airport Lifted for Brief Moment: A potential prophetic turning point - William Koenig

May 4, 2025

Israel’s National Gateway Breached

Israel’s Ben-Gurion Airport has long stood as a symbol of national strength and resilience. Throughout the years, it has withstood relentless threats from Iranian missiles, Hezbollah barrages, Hamas rocket fire, and launches by the Houthis. Its survival has often been attributed to Israel’s superior missile defense systems — Iron Dome, David’s Sling, Arrow, and the U.S.-deployed THAAD. But for many, another shield has been equally responsible: the unseen hand of the God of Israel.

The Lifting of the God of Israel’s Protective Hand

What occurred on May 4, 2025, was unprecedented. For the first time in Israel’s history, a missile struck in the vicinity of Ben-Gurion Airport, evading both Israeli and U.S. defense systems. Though physical damage was limited and injuries were minor, the spiritual and prophetic implications were monumental.

A Prophetic Wake-Up Call

Just weeks earlier, on April 7, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the White House. There, under pressure from the Trump administration, he was urged not to proceed with a preemptive strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities. In that meeting, Netanyahu was informed that the United States intended to resume negotiations with Tehran — a stunning reversal of prior positions and a blow to Israel’s strategic posture.

President Trump assured that Iran would be held responsible for every missile the Houthis fired. And yet, today, one of those very missiles struck Israel’s most sensitive infrastructure — Ben-Gurion Airport.

Evading the World’s Best Missile Defense Systems

Israeli military sources have confirmed that the missile, launched by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels, was a hypersonic ballistic weapon. It penetrated Israeli airspace and exploded near an access road to Ben-Gurion International Airport — despite the deployment of Israel’s Arrow and U.S. THAAD systems, which are specifically designed to intercept such threats.

The interception attempt failed due to a rare technical malfunction — an alarming anomaly given the systems’ combined 95% success rate.

A Game-Changer for the Middle East and Trump’s Role

This historic breach comes just days before President Trump is scheduled to visit Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates (May 13–16). It also follows announcements of a major Trump real estate development in Qatar and the promotion of the Trump cryptocurrency initiative — “Trump Coin” — by Eric Trump at a financial forum in Abu Dhabi.

As the former president continues to court deep investment ties in the Gulf, and as his Middle East envoy Steve Wikoff signals openness to Iranian engagement, today’s missile strike pierces more than Israeli airspace. It pierces assumptions about diplomacy, alliances, and divine favor.

Conclusion: When God Lifts His Hand

Israel’s trust must not rest in human alliances or technological marvels. As history has shown, when God’s protective hand is removed — even momentarily — the most sophisticated systems cannot defend what only the Almighty can secure.

Today’s strike is a wake-up call. A divine warning. A call to return to covenantal alignment — not only for Israel but for those who claim to stand with her. The shield that matters most is not made of iron or code — it is the sovereign hand of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it. Zechariah 12:3

And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. Zechariah 12:9

Israel to retaliate against Houthi missile strike on airport, cabinet decides

Israel is set to retaliate to the Houthi missile launch at Ben-Gurion Airport on Sunday, following a decision made at the security cabinet later in the day.

Following the Houthi missile strike, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a video that Israel has acted against the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen in the past and will act again in the future.

“We’ve acted against them in the past, and we’ll act again in the future," Netanyahu said.
"This isn’t a one-and-done, but there will be some big hits,” the prime minister continued.

On Sunday, an Israeli source told The Jerusalem Post that following the recent Houthi missile attack, Israel is considering revising its recent policy toward Yemen to respond directly to such attacks.

Since US President Donald Trump took office, partly due to his request, Israel has refrained from striking targets in Yemen since the Houthis resumed their attacks.

Defense sources told The Jerusalem Post that there will be a response to the Houthis, but it is too early to say when it will occur.

Sources to 'Post': US understands that Israel must respond to Houthis - exclusive

Despite initial reluctance to an Israeli strike against Yemen, the US administration has come to understand that Israel will respond to the recent missile attacks launched from Yemen, an Israeli official told The Jerusalem Post.

"The administration has never vetoed an Israeli strike, but the message was, 'We’re handling it,'" the official said, adding, "However, Washington now realizes that Israel can no longer remain passive."

Israel's response does not mean the end of US operations against the Houthis, however.

“The US military continues its operation against the Houthis, which has included over 1,000 strikes against these terrorists, and we will continue to coordinate with the Israeli government through diplomatic channels. The Trump Administration remains committed to ending the Houthis' capabilities to hijack freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.” NSC Spokesman James Hewitt told The Jerusalem Post.

Israel decides to respond to the Houthi strike

Defense Minister Katz warned, "Those who harm us will be struck sevenfold." On Sunday, a discussion was held at the Prime Minister’s office regarding the missile attack that hit Ben Gurion Airport, and it was decided to respond. "We will respond at a time and place of our choosing," Prime Minister Netanyahu tweeted. "The attack originated from Iran," he added.

The missile hit an empty area. Seems to me God protected His people from this missile strike.

Iran makes lots of claims with regards to their weapons of war that don't meet the reality test. Iran won't know if its reported new missile can beat thaad until that claim is tested.

So far, the US war against the Houthis hasn't diminished the threat the Houthis pose. Time for military planners to try something else besides blowing things up.
