Iran plans to attack Israel on Tisha B’Av - the Jewish day of disasters, Western intelligence says

Western intelligence sources told Sky News Arabia that they had evidence Iran plans to attack Israel on Tisha B’Av in response to the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, which begins on August 12 and ends on August 13, the site reported on Friday.

Iran’s attack will reportedly be coordinated with Hezbollah, an Iran-backed terror group embedded in Lebanon.

Three sources told the New York Times that Iran planned to respond to the assassination of Haniyeh. The sentiment was echoed by Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khameini on X who wrote “Following this bitter, tragic event which has taken place within the borders of the Islamic Republic, it is our duty to take revenge.”

The report indicates that there is an emotional and psychological impact in targeting Israel on the holy day of mourning.

Why would Iran let it be announced the day of their upcoming attack on Israel?!
Maybe they didn't.
Perhaps when Israeli government became aware of the intelligence, it coordinated with media to warn people to be ready to reduce casualties and make sure families had provisions for sheltering in place. They surely didn't want another October 7th,

It may have been necessary because IDF, etc. call-ups stripped a lot of families of able-bodied men and women, and they can't reveal classified military info even to immediate family, so the announcement took the nondisclosure issue away so families can be safe.

No different than a tornado warning . . . the intent is to warn people so they can be ready and as safe as possible.

Me too and I don’t know why Iran would care about what Jewish day it falls on. I would think that it means nothing to the Iranians if it’s on the Day of Disasters even with the bonus emotional impact. Iran just wants to hit their targets.
Maybe this is false counter-information.

Maybe because last time when Iran lobbed 300 or so warheads at Israel the response was almost non-existent... so Iran thinks it can act with impunity now. It would be just if Israel were to bomb 300 critical Iranian military targets the day before this supposed direct defense attack against Israel is supposedly going to happen.

Symbolism is very, very important to muslims and Jewish people. Not to say that precludes an early attack. Yom Kippur War, etc.
911 had symbolic meaning, even before the attacks.

It used to be for Christians, but most places are so secular that even Christians in denominations that pay attention to symbolism of less significant days don't notice very much, if at all, unless that day happens to fall on a Sunday.

Less than 24 hours to the beginning of Tisha B’Av, the day on the Hebrew calendar that marks the destruction of both first and second Temples, and it’s clear to the Israeli security establishment that a strike from Lebanon and Iran is a matter of 24-48 hours.

Amir has been off a few times lately, but this one could be accurate. Time will tell. Interesting times. End times.

Hezbollah's missile and rocket array is deployed in southern Lebanon, the Beqaa, and the Beirut area. Rockets of various ranges, short-range missiles, ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, coastal missiles, anti-aircraft missiles, and anti-tank missiles. The strategic arrays are deployed in the Beqaa and Beirut (ballistic/cruising/coastal). They have not yet been used. It is possible that Hezbollah will choose to use them (or some of them) in a targeted manner against quality targets in Israel as part of its response to the elimination of Fuad Shakar. There is a possibility that they will do this under the auspices of a massive simultaneous activation of the tactical formations deployed in southern Lebanon, such as the rocket formation of its various types, to areas of 0-5 kilometers into Israel's territory.

Sounds all quiet on the Eastern Front :noidea:
A senior US government figure says its military is preparing to step in to defend Israel from a looming attack by Iran, which could happen as soon as “this week”.
National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said at a press conference at the White House on Tuesday (AEST) that Iran could soon launch a “significant set of attacks”.

First they were saying "within 24-48 hours", now 'this week.'
