Denmark Prime Minister: ‘The US Has No Right to Annex’ Greenland

Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has pushed back forcefully against President Donald Trump’s renewed talk of taking control of Greenland, telling him to “stop the threats” and rejecting any suggestion that the United States has a claim to the territory.

Speaking to the BBC on Sunday, Frederiksen said it made “absolutely no sense” to argue that the U.S. needs to take over Greenland, stressing that Washington has “no right to annex any of the three nations in the Danish kingdom.

Her remarks came after Trump, following the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by U.S. forces, on Saturday again raised the idea of acquiring Greenland.

In a phone interview with The Atlantic on Sunday, Trump said he remained committed to the idea, saying the island is “surrounded by Russian and Chinese ships” and declaring, “We do need Greenland, absolutely. We need it for defense.”

Frederiksen’s remarks come days after Trump escalated his campaign to claim Greenland as U.S. territory by appointing Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as a special envoy, while figures close to the Trump administration shared posts suggesting that a U.S. takeover was imminent.

Trump is adamant that China and Russia are moving into Greenland and have missiles literally seconds from the USA, so he plans to move in first.
Russia is ALWAYS in the waters around Greenland, just as they are anywhere else in the Arctic whether via subs or surface vessels, not all of which are navy, some are "civilian" fishing trawlers fitted with the usual spy stuff that the KGB uses. KGB goes by other names now, but same people, same purposes.

China did Russia some favours (dragging anchors to disrupt marine lines for the internet sitting on the floor of the Baltic Sea) but they defer to Russia in this area just as Russia defers to them in the South China Sea.

Things haven't changed substantially in that regard.

Neither Russia or China would go to war over Greenland with a US base sitting right there.

I think Trump's statement is disingenuous, designed for public consumption as well as an open threat to both Russia and China. Much the same as Russia talks to their own people to reassure them, and subtlety threaten the west.

It is not strictly accurate, it's more strategic in design, open to multiple interpretations. Disinformation rather than information.

It provides convenient cover for any actions he may want to take against them while also providing a future excuse for invasion.

In short what any intelligent leader will do to provide more options at his disposal.

I've suspected for some time that Trump's role in Bible prophecy is ushering in the 10 kings- a kingmaker. Regime change in Venezuela makes sense for the US because Maduro's actions were actively causing the death of Americans. Likewise, Iran has directly threatened the US. Will what replaces these petty dictators be someone with less national interests and more global?

Trump does want Greenland. He says he does, and I believe it. Something to consider though, is whenever the courts here in the US strike down his actions, he has respected their decisions until he has gotten more favorable rulings. I really don't think he would invade an ally, unless he truly believed it was in imminent danger of falling into the hands of an enemy.

What I do see, is him maneuvering to buy it, if possible. I also see it as a distraction for other things he is trying to do. Will countries band up, after Trump, under 10 kings to make sure someone like Trump can never cause chaos to the globalist's plans again? I think that is the most likely scenario.

ETA: What an interesting typo I made: "the globalist's plans". Singular, rather than plural. I think, though, that I am going to leave it. It is probably more accurate.

Couldn't agree more!

Having no right to a country or its land never stopped conquerers/marauders from taking what they wanted. Throughout the history of man, military might has been used to conquer and acquire.

I don't know what Trump's game is, but I suspect it is something other than what he's saying out loud with regards to Greenland.

Denmark announced that they will now have more military presence In Greenland. No idea if its to protect Greenland from China & others, (at Trump’s request) or if it is to protect Greenland from the US overtaking it.
France is sending troops there for a joint exercise
I am now thinking that something huuuuuge must be going on behind the scenes and that’s why Trump feels this need to get ahold of Greenland. Or, maybe his threats are what he had to do to get Denmark and others to work harder at protecting Greenland.

In response to potential U.S. annexation threats,
NATO members including Germany, France, Sweden,
and Norway are sending military personnel to Greenland
to take part in joint exercises with Danish forces.

Multinational Reassurance Exercise Latest: Britain Sends One Army Officer to Greenland

European nations are piling troops into Greenland to prove it can be defended against the interest of Russia and China, with a last-minute exercise this week attracting one officer from the United Kingdom and two from Norway.

The British government shares U.S. President Donald Trump’s concerns about the threat to Greenland from Russia and China so is backing NATO’s move to enhance security of the world’s largest island by deploying a single military officer this week.

Besides Britain’s lone officer, this week’s mission involves at least one soldier each from Denmark, Germany, France, Norway, and Sweden. Norway revealed it has sent two soldiers, making Germany’s deployment of 13 people seem positively warlike in comparison. France hasn’t specified how many troops it is to send, but implied there would be more than one, given they were referred to in the plural as “elements” deployed.

Great Britain will need to send support staff to Greenland. Wherever they send their officers they open up a Brits only pub with Guinness on tap, among other drinks.

If GB was serious about this, they probably would have sent an enlisted soldier.

The French soldiers probably were issued white flags before this deployment.

Is the officer a Protocol Officer?
You know, in case the Royals stop by for tea 🫖 or a Guinness 🍺

Ok from the article, this is definitely funny!

So the one lone British officer (I'm sure he will make ALLLL the difference!!!)
:sarcasmmeter:

"Moving to reassure Washington, the minister continued: “We share President Trump’s concerns about security in the high north and you see this as part of NATO and JEF nations stepping up to reinforce security in the high north, stepping up with stronger exercising to deter the Russian aggression and any Chinese activity.”"

And NOW we can ALL rest assured, that Washington is now reassured, happy and everything is MARVELLOUS!
:sarcasmmeter:

Especially as the article goes on to reassure us all and says this:

"Besides Britain’s lone officer, this week’s mission involves at least one soldier each from Denmark, Germany, France, Norway, and Sweden. Norway revealed it has sent two soldiers, making Germany’s deployment of 13 people seem positively warlike in comparison."

How delightful!
