Danish Defense Ministry: We’ll “Shoot First and Ask Questions Later” If US Invades Greenland
Denmark’s political and military establishment has dusted off a Cold War–era rule, with the Defense Ministry on Wednesday announcing that if foreign troops land on Danish territory, soldiers are to open fire immediately, without waiting for orders.
The revelation comes as tensions between Copenhagen and Washington have reached a fever pitch over renewed signals from the Trump administration that Greenland’s status is no longer a closed question.
Denmark’s defense ministry confirmed to Berlingske, a center-Right Danish newspaper, that a 1952 order remains active, requiring Danish forces to counterattack any invading power at once, even if no formal declaration of war has been issued. In simple terms, it is a shoot-first, ask questions later doctrine.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot claimed he had received private assurances from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio that Washington D.C. is not, in fact, planning to take Greenland by force. Rubio has reportedly told lawmakers that talk of force does not signal immediate action, suggesting US intentions are more exploratory rather than imminent.

That was brought up before, in our Canadian news months ago when this problem first started to hit the news. It became part of why Canada is still considering the Swedish Gripen, as part of our commitment to Denmark and Greenland. What may not be clear and should be is that Canada will fight alongside Greenland and Denmark with the Scandinavian countries to ensure their boundaries are kept.
The plans that I read about took into consideration the landscape, the problems with an assymetric type of warfare, and the advantages that other Arctic countries have, knowing about Arctic conditions. The American response was considered, and it was interesting that the Alaskan airbase and the American experience there and oddly enough, in Greenland was brought into the plans.
It was not about numbers or capability, sheer overwhelming force was definitely on the American side of the equation. But the experience and equipment required for fighting over long distances in Arctic weather was equally interesting. The Finnish model of dealing with invasion was brought up. Called the White Death I believe.
However in my estimation that is still not going to happen quite that way. I think there is a possibility that in some way (perhaps this way but I hope not) a North American "kingdom" will pull together, and an EU "kingdom" might pull together---
BUT
I think the real answer will lie in the Bible in ways we can't yet see- how prophecy will suddenly come to pass, working out as we watch, if we are still here for it.
Meanwhile I pray it never comes to the situation that I outlined above. Because I don't want my son to have to fight for his country, and for our allies against another ally. He and many others.
What you may also not be aware of is that Greenland, Denmark and Canada have a long standing friendly dispute over an island that sits between Greenland and Canada. The border runs thru it.
For decades we planted our flag on the island with a bottle of rye whisky (Canadian whisky) and then they'd steal that bottle, take down our flag (very politely and respectfully) and plant THEIR flag with a bottle of Danish Schnapps!
This game was played out for a very long time and both sides enjoyed it. However just as we love our American allies to the south, we are also committed to our allies in Greenland and Denmark.
In this case we are also fighting for Canada's right to remain free, knowing that Greenland is just the beginning if the Americans are willing to invade and take over a former ally and friend.
In shock at how this is escalating.
Never thought in my wildest imagination we would see tension with Greenland, of all places.
This is so unnecessary and stupid.
It is, but I think it's something related to Biblical prophecy or it wouldn't be happening because it just doesn't make sense otherwise.
My personal rule is that when things don't make sense, look to God and the Bible and see if they make sense thru that lens.
Even though I can't see how this plays into it, it's like watching world economics play out- evidence of The Restrainer if you will.
I dont understand what we would gain by taking over Greenland. We already have a small base there that is vital for our defense. I would think they would be happy to allow us to expand our capabilites there, but Im thankfull I never had to be stationed there. Greenland is the worlds largest island, 80 percent is covered with huge ice caps, population of only 57,000, with few to no roads connecting any towns/villages.
totally agree.
Bottom line, pray, watch and consider the possibility that this plays out towards Bible prophecy in some way that defies any rational explanation otherwise.
