Costco makes controversial move to avoid high tariff costs

Well-known

Like many retailers across the nation, Costco (COST) is in a tough situation as it prepares to face the impact of tariffs, which pose a threat to future sales.

Tariffs are taxes companies pay to import goods from overseas, and the extra cost is often passed down to consumers through price increases.

If tariffs lead to more manufacturing in the USA and/or actual free trade between some countries, then it is a win. Consumers will adjust their spending and retailers will have to adjust their retailing. That will lead to changes. Those changes won't happen overnight, but they'll happen.
