Trump Threatens Canada with 100% Tariffs Over Its New China Trade Deal

Updated on: January 24, 2026 / 9:23 PM EST / CBS/AP

"President Trump on Saturday threatened to impose a 100% tariff on goods imported from Canada if America's northern neighbor went ahead with its trade deal with China.
Mr. Trump said in a social media post that if Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney "thinks he is going to make Canada a 'Drop Off Port' for China to send goods and products into the United States, he is sorely mistaken."
"If Canada makes a deal with China, it will immediately be hit with a 100% Tariff against all Canadian goods and products coming into the U.S.A.," he posted on Truth Social.
While Mr. Trump has waged a trade war over the past year, Canada this month negotiated a deal to lower tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles in return for lower import taxes on Canadian farm products."

:whisper: Hey, @Margery If this actually happens, you might want to stock up on Bob's Red Mill Grits before retaliation occurs
I'm on it!!!!

seriously I need to look quickly at the LLBean online catalogue as they have the tops I like and I might want to buy in advance as they are pricey enough already. I've already made substitutions across the board for all other American foods and consumer goods with the exception of electronic purchases from Amazon of books etc.

And my favourite lipstick! I better pick up a spare.

You're buying from amazon.ca, right?
I wonder if that side-steps tariffs in some way. It sure helps with shipping and currency. The last time I sent something to someone in Canada, I was able to use my Prime to get free shipping on the .ca site.

The current Canadian government is no friend of Canada.

Makes me think its easier to tariff Canada over a China deal after pushing Carney into Xi's arms because of Greenland stance THAN it certainly might have been under Pierre Poilievre who simply wanted the best for Canada. Harder to justify ripping Canada from the arms of a patriot. Seeing the map below, I believe, might show the real reason Trump wanted Carney. Because of Greenland and hemispheric international strategy (like the game of Risk).

I can remember making a few blunt comments about Carney's general fitness to lead back when the election rocked my world. And I came to the conclusion that for Trump's purposes whatever they are, that a weak man was easier to deal with than a strong one. I was quite annoyed with Trump over that but I could see the advantage to his pov.

I had hoped that he would be on board with Poilievre who saw the world in much the same way, and would have been much more on the same page for what Trump was talking about then with regards borders, economics and the like.

But that wasn't the full picture.

I remember pointing to some remarks that Trump had made about how he was going to get Canada because those lined up with what I saw of Carney- not that Carney even pretends to like Trump as Poilievre did.

It is merely stacking them up, all 3 together and looking at who would win in a fight.

Carney loses every time.

And I knew he would fold into China's plans too. Because he is in debt to Chinese interference in our politics as was Trudeau. That btw lines up with WEF plans for what they like to call the multi polar world. Spheres of economic influence.

Thanks for this Margery. We are processing quite a bit these days...lol.

I could be wrong, but if Poilievre had not backed a trade war with Trump after his 51st state mention and mention of tariffs, then i think Trump might have wanted to work with him. But what that might look like to a leader like Trump is "mini me" to my face. And the world was in a much more dangerous place for that puppet show to play. Better get a central banker in power because Trump could see the predictable erosion around their ideology. A much cleaner path to secure the West likely more so from globalist pretend wars than Russia or China. But, in general yes them too.

I say pretend because the most real immediate threat in my mind is that since globalism is dying right in plain sight, those criminal elements (which are many) associated with it will be interested in war in a major way. Because war = distraction and reshaping of economics. Without war, the criminal syndicate aspects to globalism are hugely exposed. Easy to focus on. Easier to challenge and interpret. And easier to ruin. Even General Douglas Macgregor (not the greatest Trump fan) knows Zelenski represents world gangster mentality and not a real government. Using the motif of freedom for the west and desire to join nato when Ukraine is actually under gangster (not diplomatic proper) control. So a win for Ukraine = owned by the mafia. A win for Russia = old world nationalist interests maintained. A much closer snapshot of ethical borders proper of world leader differences (and not example of imperialism as much as not wanting gangsters on your bordering country's porch).

So it would seem that Greenland which includes national lineup sites along with Canada would be able to protect America from rogue gangsters (who used American military industrial complex to regime change all over the world) who would maybe try and proxy a war through pupping countries (even as they have with Ukraine) and start WW3...which is the only sure enough path to a global reset now. And because of that real threat (taking it far beyond differences of Canada/Europe and America) we are I believe far closer to the Atomic Bulletin Doomsday Hour than even at the times of the Bay of Pigs. So that (pardon the pun) would kind of trump whether America makes an aggressive play for Canada and Greenland. Because the level of gangster desperation is about to be felt as their bottom drops out. And that level of threat would most certainly try WW3 through common nations like Russia, China, and the USA. If we have a real guard in Greenland, we are able to secure the world (not just the USA) from being owned by highly evolved gangsters.

So it makes sense why Trump would want Canada and Greenland, to me, anyway. And why he wanted Carney. He needed the predictable that would get caught in the whirlpool flushing of the deep state toilet. There is a movie, i forget the name, it is famous. Where America thinks Russia wants to bomb the US, but its a false flag by rogue players trying to get the world into war. Anybody know that name of that film? I believe that is why Trump wants Greenland and Canada because once we go down those roads that expose the real deep state, they will likely have dirty bombs etc to use not wanting to go to jail. A way to protect the perimeter before unleashing pain and what animals backed into a corner.

Lets say there is 100,000 very powerful gangsters using powerful positions hiding behind nation states. And they are about to be exposed and or taken to jail or execution. To them, destroying New York completely or setting fires all over California or nuking Canada with a dirty bomb...is nothing if they get to make huge money, stay in power, stay out of jail. And live. Human life is meaningless to them. And worth whatever the price to move forward and not be exposed. Unfortunately i believe the world has gotten to this level of evil.

. . . . .

One thing that is a curious thing to me is why a man like Trump who would have to have some working knowledge of these things go to the WEF and call Greenland Iceland...lol. Jetlag? Long conversations of Iceland's utility in the Arctic as nato member? It just seems if you want to the world to respect America, you sound like you know what you are talking about...lol? In the same sentence as Trump as Daddy, he mistakes Iceland for Greenland. Perhaps it just a human blunder. And perhaps a way for God to permit Trump some humility? it is like his grandest moment, and he gets on stage and burps...lol. Any thoughts on that?

The best i can come up with is that God is allowing the world to see Trump as just a man (even off at his most precious time to shine). Maybe he world has less to fear thinking he doesn't know what he is doing. Or maybe it is God allowing us to see that God could use such a pompous man to actually do some good at a time a world not deserving of it kind of thing. It kind of stumps me. Any thoughts? lol.

Hmmm gift for understatement there TCC!

nope we were into it before the election was called. Trudeau's idiocy with the borders got Trump going before inauguration, and Trudeau made some stupid moves, then Canada and Mexico were blamed equally for the drug traffic into the US, with tariffs imposed immediately. Before the end of January or early Feb. April was when Trump launched his tariff the world program.

yup.

with regards to the globalist desire for war, yes that was a test run with Ukraine to try out a new version of war, and to get Europe primed and ready to field an army eventually as NATO fades. Now we are moving away from tanks and aircraft, and towards drones. Different style of warfare.

Not unlike WW1 where my grandfather fought, and had a rifle with a bayonet. I think he even had a sword that I vaguely recall hanging on the wall in the entry. Bayonets were because swords had been used in the wars before that. Something to skewer their opponents. But rifles, explosives, and early airplanes were the reality, not the bayonets or that sword. By the time of WW2 the shift occurred and wars were fought with bombs, grenades, tanks and aircraft. Even subs and ships changed.

Regards the globalist desire for war. As the Ferengi say on Deep Space Nine, War is good for business.

I've noticed something else. I don't think they want nuclear war. Not yet. But the threat of it is useful so there is a lot of prodding to engage Russia's ever present sense of paranoia - with Lavrov and lesser beings coming out with nuclear talks.

Greenland plus NORAD in Canada are the 2 best defences for Washington DC and the eastern seaboard of the US from incoming missiles from Russia nuclear or not.

It's ironic that the guy who is so big on reinforcing his own borders is so in favour of ignoring the borders of others.

But not unforeseen. And in that I see a vulnerability to being prodded by the WEF/Davos/Soros factions within his own family and trusted associates.

One thing that is a curious thing to me is why a man like Trump who would have to have some working knowledge of these things go to the WEF and call Greenland Iceland...lol. Jetlag?
He is prone to slips of the tongue. For whatever reason that might be. And it happens in multiple ways, so I don't think it's jetlag. I haven't studied that in him, but it might be interesting to see medically how long it's been going on, and whether his dad's descent into Alzheimers is an issue for him too. Not picking on Trump, because my favourite president of all time Ronald Reagan was apparently beginning to experience symptoms in his second term.

On the other hand he may not care enough about the differences, and want both Islands for use in his Arctic defence systems.

And perhaps a way for God to permit Trump some humility?
God did that to Nebuchadnezzar

The best i can come up with is that God is allowing the world to see Trump as just a man
I think this is the best explanation.

It certainly fits God's dealings with Israel- always pointing away from the human leaders towards Himself as Israel's saviour. And in the end it is always all about Israel. Anything happening in the USA that is prophetically significant is always going to revolve around Israel at the centre.

Thanks Margery. Appreciate the feedback. On the point regarding Poilievre, I just meant that if Poilievre showed an interest in why Trump wanted MAGA while asserting some positive things about Canada sharing "national greatness" perspectives, Trump might have thought about working with him. But the way i remember it is that Poilievre kind of championed taking American products off the shelf? I believe that happened if not mistaken. And it was that outright grandstand move against US presidential positions that had Trump not want to deal with negative guy toward his administration.

I guess what i am saying is that if Poilievre showed he wanted to partner with Trump in how Canada could blend into a MAGA perspective while also wanting to operate from the shadows of Trump making nationalism a thing again (in a globalist leaning age), Trump might have supported him. But for Poilievre to show as an immediate northern neighbor a desire to stand against Trump, there is no way Trump would consider that a good look politically. But also just shows that Poilievre's discretion was not at world leader level for the current climate of the kinds of real global tensions existed beyond wanting good press for wanting Canada to be made great again kind of thing. If that makes sense?

This is a 2.5 minute video with that vibe...
