Conservative floor-crosser alludes to more MPs ditching Poilievre for Carney Liberals

Nova Scotia's sole Conservative MP, Chris d’Entremont, crossed the floor to join the Liberal caucus after failing to become Commons Speaker, prompting calls for a by-election.

Last night, the Liberal Party released a statement quoting d'Entremont: “After five years of serving in Opposition the people of Acadie-Annapolis … know the moment we face today needs all of us to lead, not with complaint but with confidence in a strong future.”

Former Conservative MP Rick Perkins challenged D’Entremont to run in a byelection to gauge community opinion. “Let’s see what your community thinks.”

The minority Liberals are two seats shy of a majority, which would secure their budget's passage without opposition support.

Mark Carney’s 2025 Budget: Canada Strong or Canada Broke?

The Liberals table their 2025-2026 budget, and while it’s painted as a plan to “Build Canada Strong,” what it really details is more runaway spending and fiscal double-speak.

The Liberals claim they’ll “spend less to invest more,” but that’s hard to take seriously when the supposed $60 billion in savings over five years is dwarfed by $450 billion in new capital spending.

Any minuscule tax cuts are immediately offset by inflation that this same government helped create, and they’re simply printing more money, while record numbers of Canadians can’t afford food.
