A Southern California church is leading a mission to baptize 30,000 people on Sunday in regional events around the state.

Oceans Church baptized a whopping 4,166 people in its 2023 “Baptize California” event at Pirate’s Cove in Newport Beach, and, now, Rev. Mark Francey is trying to beat its previous record by a lot.

The Irvine-based church has enlisted more than 300 congregations across the state to participate in the upcoming event, with Oceans funding 85 percent of the “million-dollar endeavor,” Francey told the Washington Times.

On the surface this seems wonderful, but if the emphasis in on numbers as the article seems to intimate, I have to wonder... I hope and pray that those getting baptized have found Christ. :pray2:

This church grew very fast. I lived in that area for 20 years. I have friends who go there and helped serve during the baptism at Pirate’s Cove last year. So, I do feel that those friends love the Lord and walk as a witness for the gospel, but I also know that this church and their dedicated congregants behave very Pentacostal. They pray in that manner where they act like the spirit is talking through them (women too). They support female pastors and believe that apostolic gifts exist today (prophets, visions, etc)

It really wasn’t long ago that this was a very small church struggling to find a permanent building.

Just a side note to this….

‘God Lit a Match’: 12K Baptized at California Historic Worship Event

Christians participated in what is being called the nation’s largest-ever baptism that occurred in California over the weekend with approximately 12,000 people being immersed.

Crowds gathered for the May 18 and 19 event, which was dubbed Baptize California, CBN News reported Tuesday. Part of the weekend was a main-stage event at Huntington Beach, which featured speakers and worship leaders.

“WE WILL NEVER FORGET WHAT GOD DID THIS WEEKEND. This is revival,” the Baptize California Facebook page wrote in a post Wednesday.

Images show people being baptized in a large tank near the stage and numerous people gathered near the ocean:
