That sentiment goes back a few decades now. That was the case when my kids were in school. It's probably gained even more foothold now.
When siblings and I were in Grade school, they at least pretended to acknowledge Parents, especially before the Bible and public corporate prayer were rermoved.
At the beginning of the year for grades K and 1, the public school sent permission slips for corporal punishment home with the kids. Parents could select no corporal punishment (call Parent), corporal punishment by the Teacher, corporal punishment by the Principal, or corporal punishment by either Teacher or Principal.
My middle sibling and I, no permission for corporal punishment.
The youngest sibling, permission for the Principal. Diagnosed hyperactivity and a giant problem (Teacher called Mom and she had to go get my youngest sibling and take to the Pediatrician due to behavior at least once). The Pediatrician told my Mom about plain coffee. I don't remember if it was either a cup half an hour before bed, or half a cup an hour before bed. It made a big difference, but didn't zonk or change personality.
These days, I suspect the school would demand my Parents get sibling get put on Xanax, etc. before returning to school. If disrespect for Parental rights is bad enough, maybe even do it themselves (via school nurse or examination by a contract NP/PA/doc).
