After Israeli strike, Trump declares US commitment to defend Qatar if it’s attacked again

The White House on Wednesday published an executive order from US President Donald Trump instructing the government to view any armed attack on Qatar as “a threat to the peace and security of the United States.”

The order, a notable American commitment to ensure the security of an Arab state, came some three weeks after an Israeli strike targeting Hamas leaders in Doha prompted criticism from Trump and outrage from the Qataris.

Trump subsequently promised that such an attack would not recur, and on Monday persuaded Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to apologize to his Qatari counterpart for the strike and promise not to do so again.

“I want to assure you that Israel was targeting Hamas, not Qataris,” Netanyahu’s office said he assured Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. At a joint press conference with Trump later that day, Netanyahu stressed: “I said to the prime minister of Qatar, Israel was targeting terrorists. It wasn’t targeting Qatar. And of course, we regretted the loss of the Qatari citizen. He wasn’t our target.”

“In the event of such an attack, the United States shall take all lawful and appropriate measures — including diplomatic, economic, and, if necessary, military — to defend the interests of the United States and of the State of Qatar and to restore peace and stability,” the order declares.

🤔 Impeach? Would a President Vance be any better?

What happened to supporting and defending Israel against all enemies? What happened to our permanent friendship? What happened to the Abraham Accords? What happened to the War on Terror?

Where are Mike Huckabee, Pastor Jeffress, etc.?

Trump’s security guarantee to Qatar reshapes Gulf dynamics and alarms Israel

The White House announcement of a written U.S. security guarantee to Qatar is far more than a diplomatic gesture. It is, in practice, a protective umbrella Washington has extended to the Gulf emirate, pledging to come to its defense if attacked.

According to officials and regional observers, two events shifted the equation. The first was Iran’s attack at the close of the recent 12-day war, an operation coordinated in advance with the Qataris. The second was Israel’s strike in Doha against senior Hamas figures. That Israeli move, carried out in defiance of Qatari objections, was intended as a warning to the emirate’s leadership. By all accounts, the message was received: alarmed by the prospect of further escalation, Qatar sent a delegation to Washington seeking a unilateral written security guarantee.

Seen from Israel, the episode carries additional significance. The highly public — and to some extent humiliating — apology that Trump pressed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to deliver to Qatar’s prime minister was only a prelude. The real prize for Doha was the written American commitment, which could reshape Gulf dynamics and limit Israel’s maneuvering room with a neighbor that continues to host Hamas leaders while deepening its security ties with Washington.

Qatar has the USAs largest and vital airbase in the middle east. We need to keep this alliance with Qatar. With the middle east, we sometimes have to make deals with folks we dont agree with, but need the real estate.

I would not make much of an issue with the security deal Trump made. Its not like Israel had plans to attack Qatar.

Thank you.

I didn't know this. I thought the airbase there was pretty small.

I would agree its a security deal to protect American assets/interests in Qatar.
Read the complete Executive Order.
Reading the Executive Order in post #3 from the White House, it is clear the US is going to protect Qatar by the means mentioned in the EO which includes militarily response against any foreign aggression against Qatar .....

Trump signs unprecedented defense pact with Qatar following Israeli strike

The White House on Wednesday released an executive order signed by President Donald Trump on Monday, that effectively committs the US to respond to any attack on Qatar.

The order obligates the US to treat any assault on Qatar's sovereignty, independence, or critical infrastructure as an attack on America itself and to respond with "diplomatic, economic, and even military measures if necessary."

The move comes less than a month after Israel struck targets belonging to the Hamas terrorist organization on Qatari soil, prompting Doha to demand significantly stronger American guarantees.

This marks an unusual US commitment to defend a regional partner that is not a member of NATO. Qatar hosts key US Navy and Air Force bases and serves as one of Washington's most important power projection hubs in the region.

Doha has long sought major American security assurances. Sandwiched between Iran and Saudi Arabia, Qatar fears potential military intervention by its much larger neighbors. It has therefore cultivated a complex relationship with both while maintaining a close alliance with the US.

Qatar plays both sides.

But actions speak louder than words, and they continually follow the lead of Iran.

Pity that Trump followed the lead of Witkoff and his son in law Kushner in accepting bribes disguised as business deals and a fancy jet. Those tend to make clear headed decisions difficult.

But God is in charge and Qatar won't stand in God's way if they get in the way of what God plans for Israel.
Really, you believe the plane worked as a bribe? A bribe for what?

Really, you believe the plane worked as a bribe? A bribe for what?
Bribes don't have to be given for a particular purpose. It is a very Middle Eastern point of view that uses bribes in advance to ensure good service.

You give them beforehand, and you DON'T say what they are for. A nod of agreement ensures preferential treatment. (tips are given AFTER a service is done, so it's a bit different- Bribes are in advance, and never are you so rude as to say I will give you this so that you will do that)

My late mil was well versed in the art of bribes- she learned from Russia and China where she grew up. When I married George I got a crash course in the ways to offer a bribe and the situations where this is needful. In Canada I have NEVER found it needful but I must admit she was able to get away with breaking minor laws about the amount of garbage she could stuff in her legally allowed cans in Vancouver BC.

Proverbs 17:8 speak of bribes in just that Middle Eastern context. -

Proverbs 17:8 A bribe is seen as a charm by the one who gives it; they think success will come at every turn.

As mil taught, bribes give you success even when the city won't let you put more than the allotted garbage out. It cost her $50 a year and she could throw ANYTHING away. She also taught me how to bargain in yet another very Middle Eastern manner. It's an art. I've used that! I miss her so much.

Proverbs 19:6 Many curry favor with a ruler, and everyone is the friend of one who gives gifts.

But the Bible frowns on bribes. These are just descriptions of the practice. Here is what God says:

Exodus 23: 8 And you shall take no bribe, for a bribe blinds the discerning and perverts the words of the righteous.

The bribe is a gift given seemingly with no thought of return favours- but it is expected that you WILL return that favour if that gift is given. I know it's not a North American concept but in Middle Eastern (and Russian and Chinese) cultures, it is part of the fabric of life.

God says a bribe blinds the discerning and perverts the words of the righteous.

I remember reading that Jaquie Kennedy was given some opulent gifts that the State Dept refused to let her keep (one of the biographies of her that I read)

When I looked it up (Jaquie was understandably bummed) this is what I found from the Ronald Reagan Library which explains it's a part of the US Constitution Article 1, Section 9 which I will only quote the first part. - for explanation of the amounts allowed, just open that link and read.

"Foreign Official Gifts
Even though heads of state have traditionally exchanged gifts as expressions of goodwill, the Constitution (Article I, Section 9) prohibits anyone in the US Government from receiving a personal gift from a foreign head of state without the consent of Congress.

Today, the handling of gifts from a foreign official to any Federal Government employee, including the President, is largely governed by the Foreign Gifts and Decorations Act of 1966 and further legislation passed in 1977.

Congress has allowed Federal employees to retain any gift from a foreign government, as long as the total US retail value of the gifts presented at one occasion does not exceed an amount established by the General Services Administration (GSA).[1] Foreign official gifts over this “minimal value” are considered gifts to the people of the United States, which the recipient must purchase from GSA, at fair market value, in order to retain. The White House Gift Unit sees to the disposition of foreign official gifts that the President and First Lady do not retain.
"

and here is the CIA busting expensive watches that their agents are gifted:

Why the CIA destroys $10,000 watches agents receive as gifts from foreign officials in which Fox Business explains the dollar amounts and how those are treated and why.

Here is a CNN article that explains the Middle Eastern point of view quite well. This explains why Qatar was so shocked by the attack, and why the other middle eastern oil money types are wondering if their business deals that benefit Trump, his family, his team are all for nothing.

It's a culture clash -- 2 excerpts from this article shed light on the Middle Eastern mindset.

" Qatar would have been forgiven for thinking it was immune from Israeli attack.

The tiny Gulf state is a key US ally that welcomed President Donald Trump just four months ago; red carpets were laid, billion-dollar deals were done and a controversial presidential aircraft bequeathed.

As for its role as mediator to end the war in Gaza, Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani personally met with Hamas’ chief negotiator Khalil Al-Hayya on Monday to push for the new US-led ceasefire and hostage deal. Hamas’ response was expected at a follow-up meeting Tuesday evening; a couple of hours before that answer, Israeli jets struck a residential building in Doha, killing five Hamas members and a Qatari security official.

The sense of shock and betrayal is palpable in the Qatari capital. The vocabulary being used by Qatar’s prime minister is strong, evocative and damning, a departure from his usual composed response to the incessant twists and turns of trying to end the 23-month war in Gaza.

...

US security guarantees were implicit in deals done and memoranda signed. Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE pledged an eye-watering $3 trillion in deals during Trump’s May visit, their side of the deal upheld.

“I think those nations will be wondering what they can do in order to deter future attacks,” said HA Hellyer, senior fellow in Middle East studies at the Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies, “but also, what sort of security architecture they need to now invest in instead of relying on a partner that hasn’t been able to protect them even from one of its own allies.”

The damage to the trust between the US and its Gulf partners has been done, though to what extent is not yet clear and rests largely on President Trump’s reassurances to his allies and public messaging to Israel."
