1 Corinthians 15: 52-53 was mentioned above and it's quite a helpful passage but there is some VERY CRITICAL context to include. Firstly vs 51 was left out, which clearly places this in a Rapture context. Scripture must interpret scripture, and the whole context must be considered.
That passage refers back to an order of events that Paul is describing in v 20-25
1 Corinthians 15: 20-25
20 But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man.
22 For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.
23 But each in turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him.
24 Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power.
25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.
Going over this verse by verse we see
v 20-22 Christ raised from the dead is the firstfruits of those who died. In Adam we all fell into death, and in Christ we who belong to Him are made alive
V23 THE KEY HERE showing the order of events. Christ, the First Fruits on the Feast of First Fruits fulfilling that Feast. THEN WHEN HE COMES (Rapture) THOSE WHO BELONG TO HIM.
V 24 can be confusing but follow me here. It jumps to the end- and explains what end we are talking about. It's when He (Christ) hands over the kingdom (Millennial kingdom as we see in a second) To God the Father AFTER HE HAS DESTROYED ALL Dominion, Authority and Power. That takes us right to the very end, after the Great White Throne Judgment as the next verse explains.
v25 says For he (meaning Christ) must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.
So v 23 explains First Fruits, THEN the Rapture, THEN the end after He reigns and destroys all dominion, authority and power. That takes us past the point of the Great White Throne Judgment when Jesus does this in Rev 20: 11-15
Think of it like the big overview, the sequence of events. First Fruits (First coming), Rapture, then the very end of the Millennial Reign.
That shows what Paul is talking about with the order of events. First Fruits, RAPTURE, then the Great White Throne Judgment.
So the whole point is that Paul is teaching the Rapture in Chapter 15 starting up in 20-25 and referring back to it in vs 51-53
Getting back to 1Cor 15:52-53 where Paul says this he is referring to the RAPTURE of the saints. This is very clear in vs 51 which was NOT quoted above. That is a big key here.
51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed—
52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality.
Sleep is meaning death. We shall not all die (so Paul is talking about a time when some of us won't die) BUT we will ALL (including the dead in Christ) be CHANGED
How- Paul explains how it happens
In a flash.
When
At the last trumpet.
and Paul restates it even more clearly. Remember he is talking about the Rapture here as Vs 51 makes quite clear and SHOULD be included in the passage.
For the dead will be raised (again, just like elsewhere, the dead are raised imperishable FIRST, then we (who remain alive) will be changed (like the dead as the next verse explains.
v 53 says that the perishable (our living but mortal bodies, or the bodies of the dead) must clothe itself with the Imperishable (to have a body like Jesus has) and the mortal with immortality.
