"In a press conference held early Monday morning at the park, Police Chief Brian O'Hara said reports of gunfire first came in at about 9:30 p.m., with his officers and Minneapolis Park Police officers arriving to find a "very chaotic scene" involving at least 100 people.
Three men were found suffering from gunshot wounds in the park, while an injured woman was found in a vehicle near the park's entrance at 11th Avenue Northeast and Sibley Street Northeast. O'Hara said she later died at Hennepin Healthcare.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has identified the woman as 23-year-old Stageina Katraya Shapryia Whiting of Brooklyn Center."

"Two more men later arrived at an area hospital. Of the five survivors, O'Hara says one suffered apparent life-threatening injuries while the rest suffered non-life threatening injuries.
A woman was also believed to have been knocked unconscious in the melee that followed the shooting. Her condition is unknown."

"According to the city's crime dashboard, 37 units responded to the park shooting. Law enforcement also converged at Hennepin Healthcare, as dozens gathered outside while some of the victims received treatment."

By now, there should be more info released to the public. Just about everything is a rehash of the initial news.
Wonder if what they're finding isn't very PC.

"In a statement Tuesday, Parks Superintendent Al Bangoura said that “following Sunday’s horrific incident, which does not appear to be a random shooting at this time,we installed a mobile camera and increased patrols at Boom Island Park.”
“We will continue to consider other safety measures, as needed, including future closing of parking lots.”
The shooting and its aftermath were familiar to one in 2022, when seven people were shot and critically wounded during a large July 4 gathering."

Showcases how criminals don't follow gun laws (but I suppose gives legal precedencefor charges).

Ghoti, are you familiar with the kinds of gangs located in that area by any chance?

Sure seems like these groups feel emboldened as if they don't feel any bite to the law there.

Yes, I am familiar with some. I was LE in Missouri, so not familiar with all here.

The three biggies (Crip, Blood, and MS13) with various permutations and subsets are represented here. Some gangs are based on ethnicity/national origin. In addition to the "usual" revenue sources of drugs, guns, and prostitution, there's a lot of human trafficking and forged documents trade. There's a lot of organized crime here, as well. Organized crime and gangs overlap here.

Much of the problem accrues from having the international border with Canada, Great Lakes international shipping with the port of Duluth, wholesale importation of refugees, immigrants, migrants, illegal aliens, etc., the immigration agencies, which don't always do a good job of vetting, and churches, who can't do much to vet, other than to determine economic need. Many times, it's not the people, who arrive here, but it's their kids, who end up in gangs. This is why missions/ministries like Gen Connect and others, which target kids and teens, who don't have roots in either their home culture or the U.S., are so important, in addition to the primary Great Commission aspects and opportunities.

Here's a list of gangs in Minnesota from a local radio station in Rochester, Minnesota. The list isn't complete (MS13 and Tren are notably missing and some others).

FBI Gang site

The first nationally-affiliated gangs got here from Kansas City back in the early 1980s. In 1985, Minnesota State Attorney General Skip Humphrey declared there was "no gang problem" and didn't do anything

I think part of the problem is Minneapolis and Saint Paul are still very nice places to live, which are still usually safe, so anything that happens becomes big news, whether it is or not. The national media bludgeons it to death and the local people here don't cave in to TPTB. Even the PC police "reforms" in Minneapolis got back-pedaled as soon as it became evident that critics were correct. I bet a lot of stuff that is "significant" here would barely make the second section of the newspaper in places like St Louis, Detroit, Chicago, Atlanta, NYC, etc. Good news doesn't sell papers or make ratings, so if it's reported, it's local and stays that way :(

Part of what has helped has been the almost-universal church historical and constant involvement throughout the Twin Cities and people willing to step up to contribute time, resources, or $$$ to whatever cause or need. People actually act on their liberal beliefs and don't shun or discriminate against neighbors, who are different. Winter provides impetus and reinforcement through necessity of cooperation :)

Wiki article about mass shootings in the United States 2025, with each incident listed. Incidents with fewer than 4 victims aren't included.

Murders/shootings,whether individual or mass, aren't random. Virtually all involve gangs, domestic violence, or a specific target(s) in response to a perceived injustice. "Innocent bystanders" aren't random, as they're family, neighbors, or otherwise associated with the intended victim(s), even if it's just proximity at the time.
