Ukrainian Troops Increasingly Refusing Orders, Desertion Rates Explode

The Ukrainian prosecutor’s office has opened 51,000 cases of desertion through the first nine months of 2024. The number of soldiers abandoning their posts is likely to double last year’s total.

Times of London reported data from the Ukrainian government showing that “51,000 criminal cases were initiated for desertion and abandonment of a military unit between January and September of this year.”

El Pais previously noted that 45,000 Ukrainians were being prosecuted for desertion from the start of the year through August. Al-Jazeera says the number is at least 30,000 desertions.

At the start of the year, Kiev was estimated to have between 500,000 and 800,000 active-duty soldiers and an additional 300,000 reservists.

They are getting pretty chewed up too, even though the western press likes to portray their successes on the Russians, and stay silent on Ukrainian losses.

The US election will determine how long this war continues. I don't think Trump will continue to support the Ukrainians, they've had a good run under Biden and sad to say if they can't win it, they can't keep their country or it's independence. Russia will annex them and game over.

If Obama wins (oh sorry, I meant to say Kamala Harris) then Russia will have to do something drastic to end this or face a continuing drain on their resources and eligible army age males. Their financial situation isn't great (still have lots of resources, oil, natl gas, and gold though) and they are pivoting with the BRICS to a more stable economy BUT they still have supply issues and their Muslim population is expanding while their own native Russian population is contracting due to years of state sponsored birth control, disincentives and abortion. Like China they face a population implosion.

Long story short, even though this war has dragged on 4 years (thanks to Biden) it can't go on much longer. For Ezek 38- Russia will have to be in a position to still have an army to send then. So this has to wind up soon if Ezek 38 is on the near horizon.

I tend to agree with the nearness, but we cant know with any degree of certainty. The signs there can fizzle out faster than the Lord can blow out a candle. However, lets hope its soon, and the sooner the better.

Absolutely.

I could also just as easily see a Trump presidency giving Russia the time and breathing room to recoup their losses in Ukraine, and get back in shape without needing a tactical nuclear bomb or two on Ukraine.

Harris would throw gasoline on the bonfire over there while Trump would hit it with a fire extinguisher, metaphorically of course.

Russia knows time is short- they worry that Harris will win- and fund the Ukrainians again. Or that Trump will win and do something to stop them. Their window of opportunity is now. They have to press their advantage as much as they can for Putin's political future and for the timing with the US election.
