Ukraine reportedly made a bold attempt to target President Vladimir Putin's helicopter with drone strikes as it flew over Russia's Kursk region last week, following reports of Putin's proximity to the warfront. Major-General Yuri Dashkin revealed that numerous UAV attacks coincided with Putin's unusual visit near the combat zone.
It was noted that Putin had visited the Kursk region on May 20. Dashkin reported: "During the period when the President [Putin] was working in the Kursk region, the enemy launched an unprecedented attack with unmanned aerial vehicles. The air defence group in this area destroyed 46 aircraft-type [Ukrainian military drones]."
With Kursk bordering Ukraine and some territories still controlled by Kyiv forces, Dashkin disclosed intense hostile drone activity during the Russian leader's flight.
"The intensity of the attack during the flight of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's aircraft over Kursk region increased significantly. We simultaneously conducted an air battle and ensured the safety of the presidential helicopter in the air," Dashkin said.
