President Donald Trump announced late Wednesday that Israel's and Lebanon's leaders would be talking to each other for the first time in decades, cheering on historic talks that could raise hopes of a ceasefire soon with Hezbollah.

"Trying to get a little breathing room between Israel and Lebanon," Trump wrote in his Truth Social account shortly before midnight.

"It has been a long time since the two leaders have spoken, like 34 years. It will happen tomorrow. Nice!" he added.

Report: Huckabee to join US delegation for Israel-Lebanon talks​

US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee will join the American delegation for the upcoming direct talks between Israel and Lebanon at the State Department on Thursday, reports CNN.​

US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee will be part of the US delegation for upcoming direct talks between Israel and Lebanon, a US State Department official told CNN on Tuesday.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will again participate in the talks, along with US Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa and State Department counselor Michael Needham.

Israel and Lebanon will again be represented by their ambassadors to the US, Yechiel Leiter and Nada Hamadeh Moawad, respectively.
