Trump Axes the Penny in Latest Round of Federal Cuts: 'This Is So Wasteful!'

President Donald Trump, who vowed when taking office to bring common sense to the federal government, said it is time to stop wasting money just to produce something no one wants.

“For far too long the United States has minted pennies which literally cost us more than 2 cents. This is so wasteful! “ Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“I have instructed my Secretary of the US Treasury to stop producing new pennies. Let’s rip the waste out of our great nations budget, even if it’s a penny at a time,” Trump wrote.

What happened to the penny forebodes what they're going to do/doing to old people: cost too much, so get rid of them :yikes:  😭

  :amen: :amen: :thankyou: :thankyou:

More money is lost on each nickel that comes off the assembly line than each penny. Time to nuke the nickel while we're at it.

Why not just get rid of all the cash? *maisey*

Oh, wait

Not a bad idea from a practical point, without consideration to prophecy. The biggest issue I see is the very large fees the banks charge for credit card use. Those don't seem reasonable at all.

Then, of course, there's the tendency of govmint to invade our privacy and dictate to us what we can and cannot do. There's too many ways for a govmint to use cashless against the people.

Wells Fargo charged a new resident a $10 fee today for him to use his credit card to load his laundry card at the apartment. The most that can be put on the laundry cards is $40 (assuming a 0 balance). So Wells Fargo charged at least 25 percent. THATS OUTRAGEOUS!!!
:furious:  :apost: :ban:

FWIW, USAA doesn't do this when I load my laundry card.

Wells Fargo has long been a horrible bank. They have a sordid history and should not be trusted for banking.

USAA used to be an exceptional bank. Used to be. But at least they don't steal from their customers.

A lot of small businesses are charged an extra fee for a person to pay with card, I still see signs sometimes that say
"we would prefer cash or other payment if possible."
But many businesses just pass that fee to the customer on the final receipt regardless.

I use Zelle for self-employed transactions, like my hairstylist.
Apple Pay got a slow start for all the glitches but now it's more popular than ever.
