The heat index reached 152 degrees in the Middle East — nearly at the limit for human survival

As the Northern Hemisphere approaches summer’s peak, heat is testing the limits of human survival in Earth’s hottest spots — and demonstrating the extremes that are increasingly possible and probable against the backdrop of accelerating global warming.

In recent days, China set an all-time high of nearly 126 degrees Fahrenheit, while Death Valley hit 128 degrees, two shy of the highest reliably measured temperature on Earth.

Phoenix was expected to observe a record-breaking 19th consecutive day at or above 110 degrees Tuesday. And in the Middle East, the heat index reached 152 degrees, nearing — or surpassing — levels thought to be the most intense the human body can withstand.

Oh my
And I complain about 107. Praying for all who are enduring such terrible heat. For those who do not know Jesus I pray they receive His Salvation invitation before The coming Real heat that will scorch men from God's Wrath during the Tribulation that we are not appointed to go through but have received salvation in our Lord Jesus. 🙏

What people who dismiss such reports by saying that the world has always had high temperatures --or fires, or floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, name the problem-- are missing is this: never in history has so much bad ever happened at the same time in so many different places. It is not the individual events by themselves, but the convergence of so many events happening everywhere at the same time.

In parts of Saudi Arabia 140 deg F is often surpassed. I've been in that. It's hard to be in that... especially when you're in an aircraft sitting on the ground and the air conditioning systems aren't working.
Is this the Air Force version of “sea stories”.:)

Hottest ever recorded temp on earth is 134. Perhaps the heat index was over 140….either way….HOT.

In the late 80s McGrath Alaska recorded a temp of minus 84 deg F. I think the coldest official temp in Alaska is minus 70 something. The McGrath weather station wasn't official. I would guess that that hottest temp recorded is an official temp v.s. the actual highest temp recorded. In Saudi Arabia the official temp was being "doctored" so the military could fly in accordance with its own rules.

You might enjoy Wyoming then. The weather can be interesting. The storms can be awesome.
Im sorry, you misunderstood- Im a weather nerd from afar :) , not up close and living in it. Although in the past, when I lived on Okinawa, I tracked all the typhoons on an oceanic chart I had. Weather has always fascinated me, especially strong thunderstorms which unfortunately can often produce tornadoes.

I lived in tornado alley in the Omaha area for 8 years. It's interesting when the world turns black and then quiet and the voice on the radio says if you're out driving pull over and get into a ditch, NOW!

It's a little different in eastern Wyoming, I'm guessing mostly because of the altitude. Thunder seems much louder, rain drops bigger, and largish hail frequent. Tornados can happen here but are rare.

In Okinawa our air crews would leave the island along with our aircraft for the Phillipines when a typhoon would come through. I experienced some pretty nasty weather there, but never got to visit the Phillipines.

Yesterday driving into Florida the thermometer in the rear view mirror on our truck registered 128. I’ve never seen it that high even parked in the sun in a parking lot.

It later dropped to 108 and then down to 96 parked in the shade. It was smoking hot. Yesterday and today there has been a smoky haze to the sky, it doesn’t smell like smoke but is definitely hazy.

I have two trees cut down that I need to finish cutting up and burn the limbs, but it’s been smoking hot with really high humidity. It’s hard to keep going any length of time in that heat.
