Statement from President Joe Biden

1LoverofGod

Well-known
Today, I signed a pardon for my son Hunter. From the day I took office, I said I would not interfere with the Justice Department’s decision-making, and I kept my word even as I have watched my son being selectively, and unfairly, prosecuted. Without aggravating factors like use in a crime, multiple purchases, or buying a weapon as a straw purchaser, people are almost never brought to trial on felony charges solely for how they filled out a gun form. Those who were late paying their taxes because of serious addictions, but paid them back subsequently with interest and penalties, are typically given non-criminal resolutions. It is clear that Hunter was treated differently.

The charges in his cases came about only after several of my political opponents in Congress instigated them to attack me and oppose my election. Then, a carefully negotiated plea deal, agreed to by the Department of Justice, unraveled in the court room – with a number of my political opponents in Congress taking credit for bringing political pressure on the process. Had the plea deal held, it would have been a fair, reasonable resolution of Hunter’s cases.

No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter’s cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son – and that is wrong. There has been an effort to break Hunter – who has been five and a half years sober, even in the face of unrelenting attacks and selective prosecution. In trying to break Hunter, they’ve tried to break me – and there’s no reason to believe it will stop here. Enough is enough.

For my entire career I have followed a simple principle: just tell the American people the truth. They’ll be fair-minded. Here’s the truth: I believe in the justice system, but as I have wrestled with this, I also believe raw politics has infected this process and it led to a miscarriage of justice – and once I made this decision this weekend, there was no sense in delaying it further. I hope Americans will understand why a father and a President would come to this decision.

Executive Grant of Clemency
Joseph R. Biden, Jr.
President of the United States of America

To All to Whom These Presents Shall Come, Greeting:

Be It Known, That This Day, I, Joseph R. Biden, Jr., President of the United States, Pursuant to My Powers Under Article II, Section 2, Clause 1, of the Constitution, Have Granted Unto

Weiss in Docket No. 1:23-cr-00061-MN in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware and Docket No. 2:23-CR-00599-MCS-1 in the United States District Court for the Central District of California.

IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF I have hereunto signed my name and caused the Pardon to be recorded with the Department of Justice.

True. But Trump can't get away with anything, 90+ indictments and "no one is above the law" 😆
Get the firing squad on Trump but son Hunter is a victim of persecution because he's a Biden. Goodafter all.
Demonrats have turned our country into one that doen't follow rule of law. Trump has been pursued with fake charges because he is opposition for the current illegitimate regime.

Diben should pardon himself and other family members as well.

Look at your last post quoting mine.
The last words in my quoted post says
Good afternoon all.

Now look at my original post #5. I said Good grief.
Not Good after all. 🤷

If you didn't edit your post... computer gremlins must have done the alteration like they do when they change word on you while you're typing. I don't think I've ever seen that happen in a quote...

Maybe it was the spell-checker/word suggester thingee on your cell phone that ran through your post and it automatically also ran through the quote.

I've been using the phone more and more and my fat finger (because I only use one), often does stuff I don't want it to. I'm probably somehow to blame, or maybe I should just blame the phone.

Hunter Biden pardon raises new questions over 5th Amendment ‘loophole’

President Joe Biden’s sweeping pardon of his son, Hunter Biden, touched off a flurry of fresh legal speculation Tuesday over how, or if, the younger Biden can move to assert his Fifth Amendment privileges that protect against self-incrimination — and how the broad immunity granted to Hunter could be twisted against him.

While Hunter Biden is indeed shielded against prosecution for any federal offenses he "committed or may have committed" between Jan. 1, 2014, through Dec. 1, 2024, those around him are not — which means that Hunter Biden could theoretically be called on to testify in any potential cases brought against family members or others in his inner circle.

In these cases, Hunter Biden’s pardon could actually limit his ability to assert Fifth Amendment privileges, since he is no longer at risk of facing criminal charges.
However, the pardon applies only to federal crimes, not state crimes, and it remains unclear how, or if, Republicans could move to act on this possible loophole in the weeks and months ahead.

Comer’s office did not respond to a question from Fox News Digital on whether the House Oversight Committee is planning to investigate Biden’s action in the next congressional session, or their views on Hunter’s ability to plead the Fifth.

One other thing, I believe that should Hunter be unable to use the fifth amendment and is forced to testify he will either have to tell the truth about his father, family and friends, or lie and run the risk of being charged with perjury. So he's between a rock and a hard place.

Or he can not show up to court, deposition, Grand Jury, etc. to testify and have a Failure to Appear warrant issued, which could be conveniently not served.

Or he can show up to court, deposition, Grand Jury, etc. and refuse to testify and incur a Failure to Comply/Obstruction of Justice and ultimately get released on a summons to appear (and then fail to appear and a Failure to Appear warrant would be issued, which could be conveniently not served.

Or he can leave the country until a deal gets worked out or statute of limitations runs out for whomever was charged that he was supposed to testify against.

Or whatever other legal stuff someone comes up with.
