Skin tattoos to replace smartphones? Bill Gates says 'Yes'.

Bill Gates is predicting the end of the smartphone era, replacing it with something far more intimate — and far more invasive. His vision? Electronic tattoos embedded directly into the skin, capable of performing all the functions of a smartphone while also tracking your health in real time. Developed by Chaotic Moon and now owned by Accenture, these tattoos would allow users to communicate, browse the internet, unlock doors, and access nearly every aspect of the digital world without ever touching a screen. Gates claims this is the “next leap” in personal technology — but for those with a biblical worldview, it sounds like yet another step toward the kind of integrated, inescapable system described in Revelation 13.

The electronic tattoo concept removes the need for handheld devices entirely, replacing them with an interface woven into the human body. Powered by nanocapacitors and activated by gestures, these tattoos wouldn’t just connect you to the internet — they would connect you to the system. And because they can monitor heart rate, temperature, and other vital signs, they also become a health tracker permanently attached to you. That level of integration opens the door for unprecedented levels of surveillance and control. Once you rely on it for everyday life — banking, identification, communication — opting out would become nearly impossible.

Revelation 13 warns of a time when no one can buy or sell without a specific “mark” — a system of economic and social control tied to allegiance to the Beast. While an electronic tattoo is not the mark of the beast, it could easily become part of the infrastructure that makes such a system possible. It blends identification, health monitoring, financial transactions, and personal data into one device that is not just on you, but in you. The move from carrying tech to wearing it — and eventually embedding it — is a natural progression toward the level of control Scripture warns will one day dominate the world.

What Gates sees as a sleek, convenient, and futuristic upgrade, prophecy students recognize as another brick in the wall of a coming global control system. Technology that merges with the body, tracks your life in real time, and connects you directly to a central network is not just a cool gadget — it’s a prophetic milestone. The smartphone once made us dependent; an electronic tattoo could make us captive. The question isn’t whether the tech will arrive — Gates says it’s already here — but whether we’ll recognize where it’s leading before it’s too late.

Maybe in the hand or forehead? Just sayin'...

What if the smartphone in your pocket was obsolete tomorrow ? Bill Gates believes the age of handheld devices is coming to an end. Instead, he envisions a future where electronic tattoos are embedded in your skin, seamlessly connecting you to the digital world.

These tattoos wouldn’t just replace phones—they could allow you to communicate, access the internet, and monitor your health without a single screen. Imagine interacting with the world with a simple gesture on your own arm.

The decline of the smartphone
Smartphones have been essential for more than a decade. From checking emails to scrolling social media, these devices have shaped how we live and work. But Gates predicts this era is fading. He points to electronic tattoos, developed by Chaotic Moon and later acquired by Accenture, as the next major technological leap.

Instead of holding a device, these tattoos are integrated into the body. Powered by tiny nanocapacitors, they don’t require batteries or bulky screens. Simple gestures could unlock doors, send messages, or browse the web, offering a more intuitive, elegant experience than anything we’ve seen so far.

Historically speaking, someone introduces a new technology, for instance, say IBM introduces the tablet computer. It doesn't sell well because there's no ecosystem yet to make it really useful. Years later, another company, usually Apple, introduces the tablet with an ecosystem to support it and it takes off like crazy.

So give it some time, eventually Apple will get people to accept it after others fail.

Me either, but that’s what I use. I decided to switch away from my smart phone due to my boss who relied on me for tech support and he used an iPhone. That was a ways back, it was an iPhone 4 and now I have a 16.

One thing I really dislike is how Apple devices automatically clone themselves on new devices. When I retired I had to pay for my own for the first time :electric: and the salesman asked if I wanted him to transfer all of the data from my old phone. I said no because I had hundreds of contacts from work. Within days it all transferred anyway :grouchy:
