Searches ongoing after Iranian President Raisi's helicopter involved in 'hard landing'

Almost Heaven

Well-known
A helicopter in a convoy in which Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was traveling was involved in an "hard landing" on Sunday afternoon, according to Iranian state media.

Details about the incident remained unclear as of Sunday afternoon, although initial reports indicated the accident involved the president's helicopter and foggy weather.

According to the IRGC-affiliated Tasnim News Agency, emergency services were conducting searches to try and find the president's helicopter, but the foggy weather in the area was complicating search efforts.

Iranian FM, regional leaders in helicopter with Raisi

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and Mohammad Ali Ale-Hashem, the representative of the Guardianship of the Islamic Jurist in East Azerbaijan and the Imam of Friday Prayer in Tabriz, were reportedly in the helicopter with Raisi.

A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and other senior Iranian officials "crashed upon landing" on Sunday, Iranian state media reported, without providing further details.

The state-run Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) said President Raisi was returning from a ceremony to open a dam on Iran's border with Azerbaijan when his helicopter crashed upon landing.

The incident is believed to have occurred near Jolfa, a city sitting on the border with Azerbaijan, some 375 miles northwest of Tehran, Iran's capital.

Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, the governor of Iran's East Azerbaijan province, Malik Rahmati, and other officials were on board the helicopter, the state-run IRNA news agency reported.
One local government official used the word "crash" to describe the incident......

I would very much like to know:

Is Israel involved in said crashing?
Will Israel be blamed regardless whether they were?
Who are the other officials on board? (Nuclear scientists, perhaps?)
Are the Ayatollahs shaking in their boots yet?

Answer to question 3:

The four Iranian officials who were on board the helicopter:
Ebrahim Raisi - President of Iran
Hossein Amir Abdul-Lahian - Minister of Foreign Affairs (bottom left)
Malek Rahmati - Governor of East Azerbaijan Province [ Azerbaijan province in Iran, not the state of Azerbaijan ] (below right)
Muhammad Ali al-Hashim - imam in the province of Tabriz (top left)

And question 2:

Israel could be blamed if Iran's president is dead.
This incident happened in an area on the border that Israel has easy access to.

Edit to add:

President Raisi was on Iran's northern border to meet with government officials from Azerbaijan, one of Israel's strongest regional allies.
Though it is a Muslim state, Azerbaijan is so friendly to the Jewish state that it is believed to have allowed the installation of an Israeli intelligence base in its territory to monitor Iran.

Iran's news agency IRNA said that the head of the Iranian Red Crescent arrived in Tabriz, the capital of the East Azerbaijan Province to participate in the search.
An Iranian official told Reuters he was concerned. 'We are still hopeful," he said, "But the information coming from the crash site is very concerning."
Raisi was traveling in Iran's East Azerbaijan province. State TV described the area of the incident happening as being near Jolfa, a city on the border with with the nation of Azerbaijan, some 600 kilometers (375 miles) northwest of the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Raisi had been in Azerbaijan early Sunday to inaugurate a dam with Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev. The dam is the third one that the two nations built on the Aras River.

3 rescuers searching for helicopter carrying Raisi go missing, Red Crescent reports

Three members of a rescue team searching for the helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi have gone missing, the Red Crescent reported Sunday evening. A spokesperson for the organization said search teams are near the potential crash site but noted that the operation will be slowed due to expected stormy weather conditions. (Ynet)

Preliminary analysis:

Tehran: The ayatollah regime is reportedly fearful that President Raisi's death will spark fresh demonstrations by opposition movements.
If the ayatollahs feel threatened, they could escalate the conflict with Israel to shift attention.
If the ayatollah regime were to fall, that would defuse much of the regional tension, but it might also mean the Sunni governments feel less compelled to normalize relations with Israel in the absence of a common enemy.
On the other hand, prior to the Islamic Revolution, Iran was Israel's greatest ally in the region, and might become so again.
Interesting and critical days ahead.

Turkey's Defense Ministry announced late on Sunday that the country would send drones and a helicopter carrying night-vision equipment to Iran to help locate the regime leader, who was one of many officials involved in a crash early on Sunday.

"I convey my best wishes to our neighbor, friend and brother Iranian people and government, and I hope to receive good news from Mr Raisi and his delegation as soon as possible," Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said in a post on X on Sunday.

Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority said in a statement that Iran had requested a night vision search-and-rescue helicopter from Turkey.

The Turkish Akinci drone entered Iranian airspace early on Monday morning and is now using its advanced thermal cameras and night vision capabilities to scan the area of the helicopter crash site. This drone also has the capability to carry air-to-air missiles and can fly continuously for 25 hours.
