Search Engines

Tall Timbers

Imperfect but forgiven

When search engines for the internet first appeared they weren't all that good, but overtime they became excellent. 20 years ago I could find exactly what I was looking for and it would show up on the first page of the search results, near the top. Fast forward to the last several years and it seems that search engines are degrading, often to the point where you can't find what you're looking for. Part of it is "product" placement where sites pay for exposure and they end up filling the top of the search results page... and often have nothing to do with the search parameters you entered. I suspect, though I can't be sure, that another reason for the poor results is certain information being left out of search results purposefully while feeding you results that this leftist world wants you to see. That seems to happen when searching for current events. Anyway, more and more frequently I'm not finding what I'm looking for... and I think this trend will continue.

Part of it is early on the search engines started out with librarians cataloging, organizing, establishing search word indexes, etc.
Later, the search engines decided they could save money by hiring library techs and most recently, data entry people, who have no training or experience in organizing information and providing well-planned access to it.

Part of it may be censorship, or at least discouraging use by burying it so far down the search results that no one ever finds it.

Google reportedly manipulates search results to hide controversial subjects and favor big business

Google's ubiquitous search engine, Google Search, is the backbone of the tech giant's business.

In many ways, Google Search is the backbone of the modern internet — the way much of the web is sorted and organized and located. Given how crucial it is to daily internet use for billions of people around the world, it's a particularly ripe target for manipulation.

Google denies doing as much, and insists that Google Search is built on algorithms and data gleaned from use.

But a new Wall Street Journal investigation found that Google manipulated search algorithms in some worrying ways, including prioritizing large businesses over smaller ones, removing autocomplete results that involve sensitive topics like immigration and abortion, and even outright blacklisting some websites.
