Russia says it will strike British targets if UK weapons are used to hit its territory

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday that Moscow will retaliate with strikes on British targets if British weapons are used by Ukraine to strike Russian territory.

Zakharova told reporters that British targets "on Ukraine's territory and beyond its borders" could be hit in such a scenario.

She was repeating a warning that Moscow first issued earlier this month after British Foreign Secretary David Cameron said Ukraine had a right to use weapons provided by London to hit targets inside Russia.

Kyiv can use British weapons inside Russia - Cameron

UK Foreign Secretary Lord Cameron has said it is up to Ukraine to decide how to use British weapons and insisted it has the right to strike targets on Russian territory.
During a visit to Kyiv, he said the UK would provide £3bn ($3.75bn) per year for as long as necessary.

"Just as Russia is striking inside Ukraine, you can quite understand why Ukraine feels the need to make sure it's defending itself," Lord Cameron said.

Not a bluff but not Putin's first action either. He'd use a neutron bomb or several on specific key spots in Ukraine first. That is clearly outlined in the Russian doctrine of war called the Gerasimov doctrine which was created about the time Russia invaded Crimea under president at the time Obama.

Britain is as porous as swiss cheese to Russian agents. They waltz in and out of Great Britain poisoning Russians at will and nothing is ever done about it. As for Britain, Russia would likely continue to use cyber attacks on British utilities or key corporations to remind Britain not to interfere with Russia's pet projects. Russia might compromise or at the very most assassinate a few key MPs or people in power positions that they feel are a threat to Russia IF they felt the need and only IF cyber attacks weren't doing enough --but nuking England, not so much.

Nuking key cities in Ukraine, yes.

NATO Gives Ukraine “Permission” to Hit Russian Territory With Western Weapons
May 31, 2024

In another step forward on the escalation escalator, NATO countries are now giving Ukraine official “permission” to use Western weapons for striking deep into Russian territory.

While Ukraine has fired missiles and drones into Russian territory periodically since 2022, Western nations officially discouraged the Kiev government from doing so in order to avoid escalation with nuclear-armed Russia.

Now, it seems as if NATO member states have done a U-turn. Several NATO countries, including the United States, have given Ukraine the green light to fire at Russia.

Well Putin has always said that he would react in kind if escalations like this happened.

I guess we're about to find out.

On a sidenote i've been wondering whether Putin has actually tried to follow through with his nuclear threats but the power of restraint from the Holy spirit has prevented the attacks from happening?

This or similar was also doctrine as far back as sometime during the Cold War.

MAD (Mutual Assured Destruction) only worked before neutron bombs. When the capability of mass murder without a lot of property damage became feasible, doctrine changed. It may have been the desire to have this capability, which drove development of such weapons. Wiping out the enemy and having spoils and uncontaminated, mostly intact, territory to take after, whether on a tactical or strategic scale, makes such capability and doctrine both logical and attractive.

I think so too.
