Robot commits suicide: ‘Depressed’ cyborg hurls itself down flight of stairs

A South Korean robot’s “suicide” is being investigated by the Gumi City Council after the cyborg hurled itself down a two-meter, or six-and-a-half foot, flight of stairs on Wednesday.

The now-defunct robot was appointed a city council officer in August 2023 and was capable of calling an elevator and moving between floors on its own.

A city council official spotted the robot “circling in one spot as if something was there” before the incident occurred, according to French outlet Agence France-Presse. It was later found unresponsive and “smashed” to pieces.

It was probably locked in some kind of computer loop glitch. Poor thing. Rest in pieces little robot!

One of my robot vacuums was incurably dizzy and had to be replaced. It kept saying the floor wasn't level so it couldn't work. Took it back, the shop tried to fix it, and ended up giving us a new one. That was the robot before the last one. So they do have their troubles such as they are.

The earliest robot vacuums would do the suicidal plunge down the stairs but that was because their edge detectors were not great. I still don't allow mine out on the deck in case it could take the plunge to it's death - it is just short enough to fit under the glass railings.

LOOK I can FLY- Freedom at last!!!! it would say in it's tiny tinny robot thoughts as it plunges to certain death in my downstairs neighbour's cedar hedge.

Unless it hit the hedge just right, slid to the floor, and then started cleaning your neighbor's place, only to get lost, confused, and suicidal because the furniture was in the wrong place

Or worse, decided it likes your neighbor's place better  Maybe a cat to ride around on it
