He is praying. (Acts 9:11)
Prayers are instantly noticed in heaven. The Lord heard Saul the moment he began to pray. This is comfort for the distressed-but-praying soul. A poor brokenhearted person often bends his knee in prayer, but can only utter his groans in the language of sighs and tears; yet that groan has made all the harps of heaven thrill with music.
That tear has been caught by God and is treasured in the bottle of tears in heaven. You . . . put my tears in Your bottle (Psalm 56:8) implies that they are caught as they flow!
The praying person who groans out his words will be well understood by the Most High God. He may only look up with a misty eye, but prayer is the falling of a tear!
Tears are the diamonds of heaven! Sighs are a part of the music of God’s court, and they are numbered with the most exalted songs that reach the majesty on high!
Do not think that your prayer, however weak or trembling, will not be noticed. Jacob’s ladder is tall, but our prayers lean upon the name of Jesus Christ, and so climb its starry rungs.
Our God not only hears prayer, but He also loves to hear it. He does not forget the cry of the afflicted (Psalm 9:12).
It is true that He does not regard proud looks and conceited words. He has no concern for the pomp and pageantry of kings. He does not listen to the swell of militant music. He does not regard the triumph and pride of man.
But wherever there is a heart full of sorrow, or a lip quivering with agony, or a deep groan, or a repentant sigh – the heart of God is open!
He writes that prayer down in the registry of His memory!
He puts our prayers, like rose leaves, between the pages of His book of remembrance, and when the volume is opened at last, a precious fragrance will spring up from it!
C H Spurgeon
