Question on Old Testament examples of the Rapture

1LoverofGod

Well-known
I know this is a dumb question but it has been stirring my thoughts so I want to pose the question out there and get some feedback.

According to Scripture the Rapture was a mystery to the OT Saints so while there are examples of the Rapture in the OT, there's no detail on the subject.

We have the example of Enoch

"And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him"
Genesis 5:24

And the example of Elijah

"Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven"
2 Kings 2:11

What has stirred my thinking is because the OT has limited information on the Rapture, because it was a mystery until the mystery was revealed to the Apostle Paul who detailed what the Rapture is.

According to Paul's writing on the subject he clearly states that flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of God, and describes what must take place to go to Heaven.

"Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. 51 Behold, I tell you a [a]mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality."
1 Corinthians 15:50-54

In the OT, Jesus has not yet sacrificed his shed blood for salvation. But that may not be relevant, I don't know.
From what the Bible says to enter heaven we must receive glorified bodies, which occurs when we "change in a twinkling of an eye".

So this is my question....

Since the Rapture was a mystery in the OT, are we to assume that Enoch and Elijah received glorified bodies to be caught up into Heaven?
The OT reference to their being caught up doesn't say.

Given your quote from Paul, which is part of the Word, I would say that they would have either entered heaven without bodies, or would have been given their glorified bodies. That's an interesting thought.
Would you say maybe they were caught up in the spirit similarly to how John was when given the Revelation of Jesus?
It sure is hard to comprehend so much that isn't fully explained in Scripture with a lowly mind as I have 🤣

If I were to speculate, I'd speculate that they were made exceptions and transformed into their heavenly forever bodies. If not, they're in heaven without their forever bodies, waiting for the Rapture at which point they would get their heavenly bodies if they're not already wearing them.

Of course, since neither died but was transported to heaven, their earthly bodies still exist. (At least according to simple logic.) And since I hold to the view that the two witnesses are Enoch and Elijah, they will return in their present bodies, and will receive their Heavenly bodies following their death. Interesting question, Rose. But since the Bible is silent on this topic, beyond the few references you included, I'm afraid all I can offer is speculation based upon my personal opinion.

Biblical logic is what I was looking for because it's not addressed in the Old Testament as I figured is because the Rapture was a mystery, so all we have are the puzzle pieces from the New Testament and try to see if they fit because that's the only reference to the "caught up"in the two verses I cited in the Question....

Strong's Interlinear Hebrew translation for "caught up"...

saphah: to sweep or snatch away, catch up

That lines up well for "caught up" in Strong's Greek interlinear...

Harpazó: to seize, catch up, snatch away
