Putin said to tell Trump, Iran that he backs deal barring Tehran from enriching uranium

Well-known

Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly told US President Donald Trump and Iranian officials that he supports the idea of a nuclear deal in which Iran is unable to enrich uranium.

The communications between Putin and both Iranian and American leaders about enrichment was reported Saturday by US news site Axios, citing sources familiar with the discussions.

According to the report, the Russian leader pushed Iran to agree to “zero enrichment,” with one European official telling the outlet that Putin “encouraged the Iranians to work toward that to make negotiations with the Americans more favorable.”

That is hearsay - and there's a lot of it now in what passes for news. Axios isn't going to out their sources, but it does make this wonderfully suspect from a Russia watcher perspective.

That's why Putin often uses Medvedev to say stuff he can't say himself as leader of Russia, but wants to say.

In this case this is standard KGB procedure (I know it's FSB now) to allow something out in the western media- to have a certain narrative going on that the west will eat up. This feels like KGB propaganda being released into western media for domestic consumption in the west.

It really reads like "Putin really wants to pretend he is on the West's good side in this whole Iran nuke thingy" combined with a little dose of "don't look too close at what Russia is doing in Ukraine or what's happening inside Russia right now".
