President Trump Announces Nomination of GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz For US Attorney General

President Trump on Wednesday announced nomination of GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz for US Attorney General.

“It is my Great Honor to announce that Congressman Matt Gaetz, of Florida, is hereby nominated to be The Attorney General of the United States. Matt is a deeply gifted and tenacious attorney, trained at the William & Mary College of Law, who has distinguished himself in Congress through his focus on achieving desperately needed reform at the Department of Justice. Few issues in America are more important than ending the partisan Weaponization of our Justice System. Matt will end Weaponized Government, protect our Borders, dismantle Criminal Organizations and restore Americans’ badly-shattered Faith and Confidence in the Justice Department. On the House Judiciary Committee, which performs oversight of DOJ, Matt played a key role in defeating the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, and exposing alarming and systemic Government Corruption and Weaponization. He is a Champion for the Constitution and the Rule of Law…” Trump said on Wednesday.

Gaetz resigned his House seat, effective immediately. This may be a bad move on his part as Gaetz is not liked by many in his own party, and the senate confirmation could be a hurdle for Gaetz to cross over. However, some GOP senators that may want to vote against his nomination might fear fierce reprisals from Trump.

I'd guess that any who vote against Gaetz will be primaried next time they're up for election.

Many GOP Senators are privately saying they wont vote to confirm him.

I think at this point, its a long shot for Gaetz to be confirmed, and Im not sure Trump wants to spend an enormous amount of his political chips over one nomination.

Either way, it will be interesting unless Gaetz withdraws his name.

I don't disagree with you but after the fiasco with his last couple of AG's I would think Trump would apply some political pressure to make sure his pick is confirmed. I foresee some serious law fare coming against him from every angle again and he's going to need all the help he can get from an USAG.

Given that one of the accusations leveled against Gaetz is extremely egregious, if it is in any way true he should withdraw himself and save President Trump the embarrassment. Unfortunately Mr Gaetz has already with resigned his Congressional seat, which leaves him and the President between a rock and a hard place. I have to be honest, if that one accusation is accurate, then as much as I support President Trump, I could not in all conscience vote in favor of Matt Gaetz for the chief judicial position in the nation. I pray the accusation is false.

This Gaetz nomination has me puzzled b/c he has the awful situation still unsettled and that makes it a lightning rod that didn't have to be. He was a valued asset in the House. Then there's the fact that he resigned. Does he not know a HUGE fight is coming and he can't be assured Trump/He will win? Is he banking on his state Governor to pick him to succeed himself if the AG option becomes such a pariah mess? I find this one puzzling on many levels.

Or, Trump recognizes lawfare when he sees it. I suspect that there are several things happening with Gaetz's nomination. First, I think that Trump is using it to see who is really on his side among republicans. Second, I've noticed that Trump has appointed men and women with a particular axe to grind for the agencies that they will be heading, meaning that there will be no mercy or making nice when it's time for heads to roll. Third, the more the deep state howls and fights against these nominations, the more that he knows that he's hit the mark with someone who will not be working for the other side.

It's going to be an interesting ride. Trump has had years to think about how he is going to tackle this problem, and he has some of the most brilliant minds working with him. That man is a fighter, and he has nothing to lose at this point.

Yep he's also picked a good speaker that seems to have CNN types running scared based on a few past video's of seen of her being interviewed by CNN

I agree fully that if it is proven then Gaetz needs to withdraw and be prosecuted in a court of law. However, we've seen Trump dragged through similar garbage also by the Dems and never Trumpers and they are masters of deception and false allegations.

"The Department of Justice, which Mr Gaetz would lead as Attorney General, opened a two-year investigation into him.
Last year, the DoJ ended the investigation without charge."

This article above obviously has a liberal bias but even they state that the DOJ investigated and didn't charge after a 2 year investigation. It would shock me if Biden's DOJ would fail to move forward with prosecution if they actually had the claimed proof.

House Ethics Committees !! :eye roll:

Surely Trump was well aware of the situation when he chose him.
I hate politics! I too pray that these are false allegations.
