MANILA, Philippines — A "potential catastrophe and life-threatening situation" looms as Super Typhoon "Pepito" moves closer to the Bicol region, with Signal No. 5 now up over the province of Catanduanes, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Saturday.
Under this condition, widespread damage is expected, Pagasa said in its 2 p.m. buletin.

Meanwhile, the northeastern portion of Camarines Sur (Garchitorena, Caramoan, Presentacion, Siruma, Tinambac, Goa, Lagonoy, San Jose, Tigaon, Sagñay) and the northeastern portion of Albay (City of Tabaco, Tiwi, Malinao, Malilipot, Bacacay, Rapu-Rapu) are under signal no. 4.
The weather bureau said "Pepito" would make landfall over Catanduanes on Saturday night or Sunday morning as it approaches peak intensity.
