Poll: Over Half of Senior Canadians Want Liberal Government, Youth Skew Conservative

Hol

Well-known
A poll this week showed over half of Canadians above the age of 55 intended to vote for the leftist Liberal Party in Canada’s April general election, the National Post reported on Thursday, while the Conservatives enjoy a modest lead among those aged 18-54.

The poll, published by the firm Leger and the Canadian Press, is not the only one that has recently identified elderly Canadians as the most reliable leftist voting bloc this election. A separate poll published on Wednesday by Liaison Strategies for the National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada (NEPMCC) found that, while Liberals lead generally, the Liberals’ largest lead was among Canadians over the age of 65, while they reain statistically tied with Conservatives among younger demographics.

YUP! That poll is correct. It is borne out by chats with Joyce who tells me what the widow gang at the mall (all over 65) are saying. All but Joyce (and me) are voting Liberal.

Before Trump threatened to annex Canada and turn it into the 51st state they were all set to vote Conservative, because of the corruption going on with the Liberals.

Now they swallowed Carney's line that he is the only one left that can protect Canada from Trumps' nefarious plots to take us out and steal all our Maple Syrup. That dastardly Maple Syrup obsessed fiend plotting against us from his lair at the White House!

If he would just quit musing out loud about taking over Canada, it would go better for the Conservatives under Poilievre. For some reason Carney has made them all believe that Poilievre is a secret MAGA guy in Trump's back pocket, when it's Carney who was outed with a little private deal with the Donald. I think Trump wants Carney (he said so) but why he wants him in my opinion is because Carney is weak and easy to control. Poilievre is not.

Politics can be a crazy indoor sport at times.

Meanwhile talking with our kids about their view and their friends, they are split on the topic. I don't see a lead in their demographic - it's mostly a 3 way split. The younger they are the more likely they vote Green.

What is lurking in the offing is the deal to become part of the EU. In March of 2025- last month a Canadian poll by Abacus had 44% support, 34% opposed, and 23% unsure. Compared against a similar recent couple of polls to ask if Canadians wanted to join the USA where 90% voted no.

Wab Kinew the Premier of Manitoba just hosted a delegation from the EU talking about oil and LNG shipping out of Churchill in Hudson's Bay bound for Europe. They want LNG or Liquified Natural Gas from us- it's greeny enough for their homegrown greenie environmentalists, and it isn't from Russia or the US so that makes the EU happy.

Denmark and the rest of the EU is talking seriously about it, and being an election, here in Canada none of our leaders want to come out and kill their chances by taking a really serious stand for or against. While we aren't technically part of the European land mass, neither was Britain, nor is Greenland, but they are or were members. We do have a border with Denmark via our border with Greenland and are part of the Arctic Circle which the EU would like to protect.

The grass roots around here are saying if we have to join up anyone because Trump is trying to break us financially, so he can take us over (he's been equally frank and public stating that too) we will go towards the EU.

Which strikes me as very Rome 2.0 of everyone! That is something I'm watching with a very close eye.

At least with the EU the general feeling goes that we retain our individual national status similar to the other EU countries. But we would be part of their system. Some countries in the EU keep their own currency. Denmark is one. Denmark and Greenland are the ones that have sparked this conversation as a result of Trump's statement that he is going to get Greenland one way or another. Individual countries in the EU can remain separate for some things.

Britain had a hard time leaving though. Easily in, not so easy to leave! And I think they are Rome 2.0 forming for the future AC empire.

While we are thinking about EU membership we are going ahead with any trade deals we can on a free trade with the EU basis. We already have that sort of arrangement with the British Commonwealth as members, and with France as part of the Francophonie which is a similar group of French speaking nations who trade fairly freely. These would be augmented by more trade with the EU with an eye to becoming a member.

The way I think this goes is

Liberal minority govt, with support from what's left of the NDP (people are still choked at Singh and the NDP) and whatever greens get elected if any.

Conservatives are the Opposition with

The BLOC Quebecois holding the balance of power, siding with whichever side they feel aligned with on any given Tuesday. They are the party that wants to leave Canada, and be French, but not too French because they don't want to belong to France or anyone else. Separatists who are having an identity crisis because many Quebecois who support the Bloc, are now getting in touch with their inner Canadian and feeling a wave of solidarity with the rest of Canada.

It sounds like most of Quebec who wanted to run away and be French, speak only French and eliminate the dreaded English now want to stay in Canada as they realize that splitting Canada up means that the evil English speakers from below the border will have them for lunch! Complete with all their nicely worked out dairy agreements to market their butter and cheese across Canada.

Danielle Smith the Premier of Alberta is the wild card. She holds the majority of the oil in Canada in her hot little hands, and like most of Alberta she holds a grudge against anything with the last name Trudeau, and that carries over to his handpicked successor Mark Carney.

She is NOT feeling all warm and fuzzy towards Ontario- the heart of Liberal English Canada and the nemesis of the West, or our capital Ottawa so this could get interesting. I don't see her as an EU wannabe either. She is pragmatic though so if Wab Kinew wants to set up LNG ports in Churchill to sell to the EU, she'd be all over that opportunity.

She's not particularly pleased with the US tariffs on her oil, so she's looking for markets elsewhere and any warmth to splitting from Canada and joining the USA as Texas North has gone completely. She's working with Canada to stay free but she still isn't feeling the love for Ottawa right now. She's aligned with Poilievre, so if he wins, this could be good as they will work together well.

If nothing else, Trump has done what all the Canadian Prime Ministers have failed to do since Confederation, and that would be to pull Alberta and Quebec back into Confederation, and into a Canadian identity. Definitely nothing I ever expected to see in my lifetime.

The election is Monday April 28 so 12 days left.

We don't usually get all wild and crazy during elections so other than some yelling in Parliament and emotional interviews blasting each other's positions it will be fairly normal up here.

Carney has muzzled the press and last I looked a Rebel news reporter was arrested for trying to do his job, so the thought police are out in force.

Like I said, fairly normal.

I’m praying for Canada, that Poilievre‘s party wins.

:whisper: I wish Trump would stop making Canadians feel threatened
I would like that too but I'm getting used to the concept that the Canada I knew, loved and am still part of is changing. Inevitably as we march towards the Tribulation period. I am sad for my country and what's coming.

It's not just Trump's ongoing attacks on us.

I've lived thru the last few years as MAID took hold in Canada, as the tide of aborted babies blood swept thru my country and watched as we turned our backs on Israel during the Trudeau years. God is not happy.

If God allows the Assyrians to wake up Israel, He can certainly use Trump to wake up Canada. I'm a realist. When someone explains that they are going to take you over, and outlines how it's going to happen, and that lines up with what you see, it's happening.

I think it's ironic that it's actually pushing us towards Europe. I don't see that as a positive thing either. I'd prefer NEITHER, but my only say is my vote and I will be exercising that right on Monday April 28

Worse is coming. I'm almost sure that Carney will win. It's going to get very dark very fast now.

Those we place our trust in, whether allies or friends will inevitably fail us. The only person we should trust is Jesus. Whatever side of the border we live on.

Human politicians with the best intentions will still fail. Even if Poilievre wins, he'd fail us in some way. Jesus never does.

We are closer to the Tribulation and all around is is changing.

I'm glad the Rapture will snatch us up and out of here before that day.

Till then, endure the changes as best we can, keeping our eyes on Jesus.

If the actions, words, beliefs, and attitudes of the liberal members of the Canadian part of my family are any indication, if the Liberals do win and lock enough of, or the whole government, persecution will surely follow. It may start out soft, but I believe hard persecution is a very real possibility.
