Newsom calls biological men in women's sports 'deeply unfair' in podcast with conservative activist

California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom put distance between himself and his party, and found common ground with influential conservative activist and commentator Charlie Kirk, when the term-limited governor and possible 2028 presidential contender agreed that biological men in women's sports is "deeply unfair."

"The young man who's about to win the state championship in the long jump in female sports, that shouldn't happen," Kirk said California on Newsom's debut episode on his new podcast, "This is Gavin Newsom."

Kirk, a MAGA world rock star and ally of President Donald Trump and Donald Trump Jr. who leads the powerful Turning Point USA youth organization, asked Newsom, "You, as the governor, should step out and say no. Would you do something like that? Would you say no men in female sports?"

"Well, I think it's an issue of fairness," Newsom replied. "I completely agree with you on that. It's deeply unfair."

If Newsome recognizes that it's wrong for "trans" men to participate in women's sports, then he has to recognize the wrong in his policy in California being a sanctuary state for trans surgeries, that tax payer money pays for, especially with minors who he allows to be removed from parents custody to have those surgeries, and he has allowed minors to come to California from other states for those surgeries.

Turning Point USA founder and CEO Charlie Kirk confronted Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom over a state law prohibiting any requirement for schools to notify parents about changes to their child’s gender identity.

Newsom signed the “Support Academic Futures and Educators for Today’s Youth Act (SAFETY) Act” in July 2024, allowing school administrators to keep any changes to a child’s gender identity or sexual orientation undisclosed from their families. As Kirk confronted Newsom on the legislation, the governor argued that the law simply states that parents cannot get fired if they withhold information about a child’s identity from their parents or guardians during an interview released Thursday on his new podcast, “This Is Gavin Newsom.”

“You signed a law where school districts can’t even tell parents if their kids are trans,” Kirk said, which Newsom said is “factually untrue.”

“They can, they just can’t get fired for not doing that and it wasn’t just trans,” Newsom said. “The law was explicit, [it] said ‘you can’t be fired for not snitching on a kid’ not just for being trans, for being gay … The teachers themselves have the right, the law itself says they can [tell parents], we’re not saying you can’t do that. We’re saying you shouldn’t be fired if you choose not to say ‘Johnny was talking about liking some other boy.'”

I was extremely disappointed in Charlie Kirk's discussion. Newsome is setting himself up for a run for president 2028.
