Israel Ends All Tariffs on U.S. Goods Ahead of ‘Liberation Day’

Israel announced Tuesday that it would end all tariffs, or customs duties, on U.S. imports — just one day before President Donald Trump was set to announce reciprocal tariffs in a Rose Garden ceremony dubbed “Liberation Day.”

Cancelling the customs duties on American goods is an additional step in the policy that my governments have led for a decade in opening up the market to competition, introducing variety to the economy and lowering the cost of living. In addition to the economic advantages to the market and to the citizens of Israel, the current effort will allow us to further strengthen the alliance and ties between Israel and the US. We will continue to work to reduce barriers and customs, and bolster our special relationship with the US.

The current administration is a genuine opportunity to fashion a new strategic economic future for the countries by strengthening Israel’s central role as an economic partner. I ascribe great importance to deepening the economic cooperation, advancing innovation and strengthening the financial and commercial ties between the countries, as was recently declared by the US Treasury Department and the Israeli Finance Ministry. Lowering the customs duties will be good for the State of Israel and is in line with the Government’s policy on fighting the cost of living and will even increase competition in the food sector.

A lot of countries would be wise to follow in Israel's footsteps. Raising already one sided tariffs with the USA will just cause Trump's auto-reciprocal tariffs to immediately kick in and it will be a losing situation for the weaker economy.

This is REALLY interesting because it's cementing the US Israel alliance right now, just at the point where Israel could use all the help it can get against the attack from Iran, Lebanon, Syria's new leader backed by Turkey who hates Israel, Gaza, Egypt, "west bank" aka Judea and Samaria along with Jordan who helps them like Egypt does with Gaza. Add in the Yemeni Houthi's and Turkey.

MBS just pushed for inclusion of Syria's new President Ahmed al-Sharaa (Turkey backed him in the coup of Assad) (aka Al Joulani when he was a terrorist) in Trump's tour of the Arab states in May. I can't paste the link here- my computer has issues, that function seems to work off and on, but it's found at I24News as an exclusive a few hours ago. title is "Trump to meet with Syrian leader during Saudi visit"

MBS of Saudi Arabia is stirring the pot a bit, and it's good that Israel cemented their relationship with USA NOW! Before MBS tries to steer things towards the muslim Arab states.

I can paste a quote from the article here:
"U.S. President Trump will meet with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa during his upcoming visit to Saudi Arabia in mid-May, a Syrian source told i24NEWS.

The expected meeting was arranged through the personal mediation of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
"

US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he would impose a 10% baseline tariff on all imports to the United States and higher duties on some of the country's biggest trading partners, in a move that ratchets up a trade war that he kicked off on his return to the White House.

The sweeping duties would erect new barriers around the world's largest consumer economy, reversing decades of trade liberalization that have shaped the global order. Trading partners are expected to respond with countermeasures of their own that could lead to dramatically higher prices for everything from bicycles to wine.

"It's our declaration of independence," Trump said at an event in the White House Rose Garden.

Trump displayed a poster that listed reciprocal tariffs, including 34% on China and 20% on the European Union, as a response to duties put on US goods.

The US also imposed a 17% tariff on Israel.

US to impose tariffs on EU at a rate of 20%
China -34%
India - 26%
South Korea - 25%
Japan - 24%
Taiwan - 32%
United Kingdom - 10%
Vietnam - 46%
Switzerland - 31%
Cambodia - 49%
South Africa - 30%
Indonesia - 32%
Brazil - 10%
Singapore - 10%

Israel - 17%

Being that Israel cancelled their import tariffs on the US, why would we put a 17% tariff on Israel? Just wondering.

What the news story ignores is that same poster shows the tarrifs that those countries have always been imposing on America. And the fact is that reciprocal tariffs that America is going to impose on these countries is far less than the tariffs imposed by these countries on America. Even the 46% tariff America will charge on products from Vietnam is significantly less than the 90% tariff the Vietnam are charging on American goods.

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding on why I posted that article.
I had no issues on tariffs imposed on countries in fairness to the US trade market.
I just had my attention to the last part that was on what I posted. Israel removed All tariffs against the US and Benjamin Netanyahu posted it on X. Anyone with an X account can see his post that Israel removed All of the tariffs against the US and that's what had me wondering why we would still impose tariffs on Israel.

This was why I posted the article.........
(The US also imposed a 17% tariff on Israel.)
Sorry 😕

I hope Trump quickly drops the new tariffs on Israel.
Israel cancels remaining import taxes on US goods ahead of Trump’s expected announcement of new tariffs
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu posted an announcement to 𝕏, as well as an official announcement through the Prime Minister’s Office, celebrating the move to bring variety to the market and lower the cost of living.

(Open the link to see Netanyahu's post on X.)

"Economy & Industry Minister Barkat, Israel has cancelled all of the customs duties that have been levied until now on products from the US, Israel's largest trading partner"

Nothing to be sorry about. I had no difficulty with what you posted so there was no misunderstanding. My only point was totally separate from the Israel tariff issue. I was just commenting on the fact that whatever tariffs America puts on other nations is far less than the tariffs other nations have always had on America.

Now, why there is a tariff on Israel makes no sense to me. Especially since Israel has dropped all tariffs on America. I guess this is a question that will be ferreted out in the news in the days to come.

I just got kinds confused by your reply because you replied to a quote from another thread that isn't here.
The only link I posted on this thread was from The Hill because I was asked for a link about Israel getting 17% tariffs.
What you replied to is from another separate thread I had posted not from here so this is what I meant by misunderstanding.
