Kentuckian offers free sanctuary to victims of Helene

A man in Western Kentucky is offering his 84 acres of land there to survivors of Helene who have lost everything. He says just show up at his place and they're welcome to stay as long as they like, free of any charge. And if they want to stay permanently and rebuild there, then that's okay by him. He just wants to help.

While I think it is a great what he is doing, he should be awfully careful who he lets settle on his property. If I made the offer it would be conditional, that they be vetted by the sheriff of the county they are leaving and vetted by the local sheriff.

He could wind up getting undesirables homesteading on his land and it could be very difficult having them evicted, when there is a open invite posted on social media.

Our church has had to get our sheriff to vet people for our assistance shelter needs, because of the scammers that live like gypsies going from church to church getting money to pay their light bill, and free food.

I think it is a great thing to help those in need. But it is not the churches responsibility to pay the bills for able bodied people who won’t work.
