Justice Department Ends Clinton Rule Giving Welfare to Migrants

The Department of Justice is closing a Democrat-created bureaucratic loophole that has allowed legal and illegal migrants to get a huge quantity of taxpayer aid since 1997, despite a 1996 law limiting aid to citizens.

The loophole was created by President Bill Clinton’s administration after Congress passed the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (PRWORA), which was intended to “strengthen… the principle that [legal and illegal] immigrants come to America to work, not to collect welfare benefits.”

“We now retract that [1997] opinion and offer the best reading of the phrase ‘Federal means-tested public benefit,'” President Donald Trump’s Justice Department said on December 16.

That's big news and great for America. I believe most Americans are sympathetic towards immigrants, but the immigrants in turn need to assimilate and pay their own way. This creates a mutual respect such as we have for immigrants who came in the right way, contribute to society by working and paying taxes. That's not too much to ask to be part of the greatest nation on earth.

Watchdog: Big Beautiful Bill Reforms to Reduce Medicaid Fraud as More Than $207 Million Sent to Dead People

The Office of Inspector General said that the Big Beautiful Bill’s provision requiring states to audit their Medicaid beneficiary lists is expected to reduce improper payments.

Aner Sanchez, assistant regional inspector general in the Audit Office, said that these types of improper payments are “not unique to one state, and the issue continues to be persistent.”

The report, released Tuesday, found that more than $207.5 million in managed care payments were made to deceased enrollees between July 2021 to July 2022. It recommended that “the federal government share more information with state governments to recover incorrect payments, including a Social Security database known as the Full Death Master File.” The Full Death Master File is restricted due to “privacy laws which protect against identity theft and fraud.”

There's a seriously abridged version, which is available online. It only lists the Social Security Numbers and it's about 90 days behind, but there's no reason State and local governments couldn't have been using it all along. Especially with the ease that a database check could be programmed into the software the various organizations and agencies use. If the SSN on a claim matched one on the death file, automatic flag and investigation.

It's actually a good resource to check a few/several months after a family member has died, to ensure his or her Social Security Number is on the list, so harder for fraud that could entangle other family members, especially a spouse.

It’s mind boggling that this could happen. If a paper check was cashed, all that information should be traceable by whom and where. If it was auto deposited into a dead persons bank account than same thing, if it is still not in that dead persons bank account then the bank should be able to trace who accessed it and when.

The govmint loses billions upon billions of dollars of the peoples' money to fraud, but they want the banks to send records of any transaction over $10,000 by law abiders so they can investigate it.

From what i am looking into, the Big Beautiful Bill taking affect in 2026 might provide quite a bit more than we might estimate. It would seem to be an economic semi-boom putting forth potentially real steam to expose by contrast dem strategies to keep economies muted to some large extent. If there is something to this projections, in part this may be a powerful financial tool to sway midterms toward MAGA. The only way that kind of economic uptick could be an asset is if it demonstrates fiscal performance beyond the margin. From what i understand, this may be a somewhat beginning push unleashing economic dynamics the US and world might not have really seen before (or at least in a very long time). Thanks Hol at @Tall Timbers for these articles. :) Blessings.
