The US will "defend Israel if they are attacked," US President Donald Trump confirmed on Friday morning after Israel conducted airstrikes on Iran as part of Operation "Rising Lion."

US President Donald Trump said that Iran cannot have a nuclear bomb and that the United States was hoping to get back to the negotiating table, in an interview with a Fox News following the start of Israeli airstrikes on Iran.

"Iran cannot have a nuclear bomb and we are hoping to get back to the negotiating table. We will see. There are several people in leadership that will not be coming back," Fox News reporter Jennifer Griffin quoted Trump as saying in a post on X.

"Tonight, Israel took unilateral action against Iran. We are not involved in strikes against Iran and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region," Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a statement.

"President Trump and the administration have taken all necessary steps to protect our forces and remain in close contact with our regional partners. Let me be clear: Iran should not target US interests or personnel."

Footage shows Iranian drones in skies above Iraq, apparently en route to Israel​


Video posted to social media appears to show Iranian drones en route to Israel.
The footage apparently shows a drone flying over Iraq.

The Israel Defense Forces said that Tehran had launched over 100 UAVs toward Israel in recent hours in response to strikes on Iranian nuclear and military sites.

The drones take a number of hours to reach Israel from Iran.

The chief of the Military Intelligence Directorate, Maj. Gen. Shlomi Binder says Israel is entering an “existential” battle against Iran.

“As you know, we are entering a campaign that is nothing less than existential, against an enemy that seeks to destroy us,” Binder says to soldiers in a command center this morning.

“You’ve heard this yourselves more than once: they are working to develop nuclear capabilities, rapidly advancing in that development, and building up conventional weaponry in very, very large quantities,” he says.

“This is what we aim to degrade, to disrupt, and to remove that threat,” Binder says.

Iran parliament approves strategic pact with Russia​


DUBAI, May 21 (Reuters) - Iran's parliament approved a 20-year strategic partnership on Wednesday between Moscow and Tehran, state media reported. The agreement represents a deepening of bilateral ties including closer defence cooperation.

The Russian legislative branch approved the pact in April. While the agreement does not include a mutual defence clause, it says both countries will work together against common military threats, develop their military-technical cooperation, and take part in joint exercises.
