Israeli tanks have entered Rafah

The Prime Minister's Office said earlier on Monday night that the War Cabinet had agreed to continue with Israel's planned Rafah operation.

This comes despite Hamas's earlier agreement with the Qatari and Egyptian ceasefire proposal.

A former Senior Israeli security source told The Jerusalem Post on Monday that the proposed "deal" Hamas said they agreed upon doesn't actually exist.

The source added that the reported ceasefire deal "is a proposal that no one in the Israeli administration recognizes. It's a proposal Hamas invented. They are playing with us. They are telling the world - 'we agreed to a ceasefire,' to try to prevent Israel from a ground incursion."

This is a developing story.

Praying for Israel! I saw Amir's update on this fake agreement. Apparently the CIA was involved, Hamas and the CIA cooked it up, and made Israel look like they were being bad by not joining but Israel wasn't a part of any of those "negotiations".

Israel needs to go in and kill Hamas period. Watchman River was making the point today that if Israel was engaged in "genocide" then it's pretty odd that they've been dropping leaflets to get civilians OUT of Rafah and pointing out where they will be working to root out the real genocidal criminals.

The Israel Defense Forces began operating in “a targeted manner” against Hamas terrorist sites in the eastern part of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip on Monday night.

The military announcement came minutes after Israel’s War Cabinet decided unanimously to “continue the operation in Rafah to exert military pressure on Hamas in order to promote the release of our hostages and the other goals of the war,” per the Prime Minister’s Office.

According to a report by Israel’s Channel 12 News, which cited Arab media, IDF ground forces entered eastern Rafah accompanied by heavy airstrikes, including so-called “Belt of Fire” barrages, which entail setting off circular explosions around terrorist infrastructure.

The IDF Spokesperson said on Monday night that the military conducted precise, targeted strikes against Hamas terror targets in Eastern Rafah.

"The War Cabinet unanimously decided that Israel continues the operation in Rafah to exert military pressure on Hamas in order to promote the release of our hostages and the other goals of the war," the statement read.

The PMO also noted that in parallel and despite the fact that the "proposal is far from Israel's necessary requirements, Israel will send a delegation of mediators to exhaust the possibility of reaching an agreement under conditions acceptable to Israel."

I always think of a pastrami sandwich when Watchman River comes to mind. He always gets those food bits in there. Sweet guy. I hope and pray his nerves get healed.

IDF takes Rafah crossing, Egypt blocks fleeing Gazans

The Israeli army took control of the Gazan side of the Rafah border crossing on Tuesday morning, as images circulating on Arabic-language news sites and social media appeared to show the Israeli flag raised over the former Hamas-administered site.

The 401st Armored Brigade captured the crossing, cutting it off from the major thoroughfare of Salah a-Din road. That route was separately captured by the Givati Brigade overnight, the army said.

A video, which was apparently filmed by an Israeli soldier, depicted a tank mowing down flagpoles, atop which the Palestinian flag was mounted, at the Rafah crossing.

Here's How Israel Plans to Take Rafah

The increasingly anti-Israel Biden administration isn't too happy about it, but Israel's War Cabinet voted unanimously on Monday to move forward with their operations in Rafah. Reports from sources have come pouring in to share what Israel's plan are for taking the Rafah crossing.

Axios' Barak Ravid has cited "two sources with direct knowledge" to post and report that Israel "moved to capture the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing between Egypt and Gaza in the next few hours." This is a particularly key area, given that it's "a main entry point for humanitarian aid into Gaza and Israel says the eastern part of the city is a strategic site for Hamas."

While critics of the operation express concern for civilian casualties--which would be entirely the fault of Hamas for perpetrating the October 7 attack on Israel in the first place--Israel has taken careful steps to evacuate people.

Another way in which the Biden administration has criticized Israel and their plans for Rafah is concerns that Israel is supposedly not doing enough for humanitarian aid for civilians in Gaza. As Ravid's piece also mentions, though:

When hamas is inserted right in with civilians, Israel really has no responsibility to the civilians... they should just prosecute the war and eliminate hamas without regard to the number of "other" casualties.
