Israel Seizes Strategic Peak of Mount Hermon from Syria

Tall Timbers

Imperfect but forgiven

Israel’s Army Radio reported Sunday that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) had seized the peak of Mount Hermon, the highest mountain in the region, as a precaution against the advance of Syrian rebels as the Assad regime collapsed.

The mountain, covered in snow during the winter months, is the highest in the region, and a key strategic point. Israel has a military base on the mountainside, but Syria has long had a military base on the peak of the mountain itself.

The move marks the first time Israeli troops have been on the peak of the mountain since the Yom Kippur War in 1973.

In that conflict, Syria and Egypt surprised Israel with an attack on the Jewish faith’s holiest day. Syrian troops took over an Israeli base lower down on the mountainside on the first day of the war, October 6, killing many troops from the elite Golani brigade.

Very interesting article. I suspect Israel plans to keep that mountain in their possession.

AMEN AND HALLELUJAH!

That is wonderful. Ok and that gives Syria (whenever they end up being a country again) a motive to start something with Israel that ends up with Damascus being destroyed overnight.

Isn't that something!!!!! WOW!!!!

I hope Israel KEEPS IT because the same reason the Golan Heights were taken (and forced to be given back so many times) was because Golan overlooks the area around the Galilee, and the farmers couldn't farm with constant shelling.

If Israel keeps the Golan, they should also keep Mt Hermon, same reason.

By destroying all of Syria's current military assets Israel is demonstrating its military power to the backwoods new rulers of Syria who've already said they're going to take Israel and Saudi Arabia too.

I love that Israel is taking care of business. I do believe that when the dust settles they may actually know peace for a little while.
