It's a converted merchant ship, probably with a traditional merchant ship hull. I don't see any arrestor for manned aircraft. In terms of advancing naval military knowledge... they could learn a lot from having this asset. Aside from being educational for them, I don't think there is any benefit to put it up against anything but 3rd world countries. Even Saudi Arabia could probably sink it pretty quickly, and Saudi Arabia doesn't have a whole lot of military assets... just the fighter jets they bought from us so their princes have something to fly around in.
