The conversation was held after Gaza's only Catholic church was damaged by an Israeli strike that killed three

In a phone conversation on Friday with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Pope Leo XIV urged Israel to protect holy places and worshipers. The talk was held following a strike carried out Thursday by the Israeli army that hit the church of the Holy Family in Gaza, causing the death of three people and injuring others, some gravely.

Earlier, Netanyahu said the tragic incident was caused by stray ammunition and expressed sorrow over the loss of life.

well what about Pope Leo coming out and issuing a statement condemning the constant terrorism from Gaza AND the horrifying events of Oct '23. HAMAS is the REASON for that Gaza church to be hit, NOT THE ISRAELIS trying to stop HAMAS!

I see a complete lack of spine and morals coming from the Vatican, per usual. Consistent with the pope of WW2 whatever his name was, that turned a blind eye to the Holocaust and ASSISTED the Nazi's to escape their fate and flee WITH GOLD to South America.

Yes, it’s cowardice dressed up in popular virtue signaling.

It’s sad how attached Catholics are to structures and iconography. Hitting one of their churches probably clouds their understanding as it is an important part of their religion. They seem snared in the imagery their costumes, religious symbols and traditions that define them.

The world-class surgeon that I had some years ago in St Louis Metro, which has a large German/derivative population, was from Argentina, graduated medical school there, and spoke with a German accent. He was the right age to have been born right after WWII  I would guess his Parent(s) were either Nazis, sympathizers, or were extremely wealthy and had fled ahead of the war/destruction. But, for all I know, they could have been Jewish people or Christians, who managed to escape.

As a kid, I remember the Israeli Nazi-hunters arresting people all over the world and taking them to stand trial.

This is an interesting article by JNS out of Israel. They present the case that it was HAMAS and not Israel that targeted that church.
