An imam told worshippers at a Twin Cities mosque that Muslims are the “replacement” for those who once held positions of privilege in America, declaring during a sermon that “this is our moment.”

“Those that are in opposition to Islam, they’re watching the growth and the development of the Muslim community, and it scares them. You know why? Not because you’re a threat. No,” Malik said in a sermon that has been going viral on social media this week. “They think you’re about to replace those of privilege of the days of old. They see the Muslims as their replacement. And to be honest with you, we are their replacement.”

The imam, who is from New York, also referenced political changes he said demonstrate growing Muslim influence in American life.

“Tell the young people to continue to study, to prepare themselves, to become the doctors, the lawyers, the engineers, to become the mayor, the police chief, the leaders of Congress,” Malik said. “And those that were born in America, prepare yourself to be America’s next president.”
