Residents in Nashville, Illinois, living near to a dam have been ordered to evacuate because it is at risk of "failure"
A local community center in Nashville is open for shelter for residents living near the Nashville City Reservoir and in the surrounding area.
In a social media post, Washington County IL Emergency Management Agency, said: "Attention The Failure of the Nashville dam is imminent. Please evacuate your home at this time. If you are in the grey box [risk zone], you need to evacuate now!"
The Washington County Emergency Management Agency said the failure occurred after over 5 inches of rainfall. Officials also confirmed on Facebook that a local nursing home will not be evacuated at this time.
Evacuation warnings were issued Tuesday morning, with officials going door-to-door to assist locals.
