Hezbollah pagers explode simultaneously

It is true, the Lord takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked. Therefore, if we are his children, neither should we. Any soul that dies without salvation is a soul created by God but lost to Him forever. Surely that is a cosmic tragedy.

But the passage you refer to in Proverbs is speaking of an individual, personal enemy, not a national enemy. The wording is all in the singular; in other words it is speaking to an individual and of an individual, not to (or of) a group. Thus it is speaking of a specific someone with whom you are at odds. When the person you don't like or who has caused you pain stumbles or falls, you are not to rejoice or gloat. As Jesus said, we should pray for our enemies and those who despitefully use us. But a nation out to destroy your nation is a different matter.

If it were wrong for Israel to have rejoiced when they inflicted defeat on an enemy, the Bible surely would not have recorded such rejoicing in favorable terms. 2 Chronicles 20:27 says: "Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, with Jehoshaphat in front of them, to go back to Jerusalem with joy, for the LORD had made them rejoice over their enemies." Enemies refers to those who were out to destroy the main of Israel.

That said, I believe that the teaching of the Bible is that our rejoicing should not be over the death of our enemies but rather our rejoicing should be in the fact that God has delivered us. We should rejoice that it is God's hand that has brought success in our battles, rather than rejoice in the destruction of our enemy. I believe that when our enemies are destroyed, it should cause us to have a holy fear of the power of God Almighty, who can overthrow any enemy, any nation, any power in the universe. Yes, we should rejoice at deliverance from the one who threatens us; but I believe that the Bible demonstrates that our rejoicing should be focused on God, not simply on our own good.

Anyway, just a couple of thoughts off the top of my head.
Personally, I think that there's also another form of rejoicing over the defeat of a wicked national enemy: the pleasure of seeing that justice is done. God's justice. I feel frustrated at the lack of it in this world (like Lot:vexed by the evil.) I don't desire the day of wrath, but it pains me to see those that would harm the weak for pleasure. That this enemy and their allies killed babies/children and raped old ladies for the fun of it- it feels particularly poignant that most of them, rather than dying, had certain parts blown off.

Pagers sold to Hezbollah were booby-trapped in Israel – report

The September 17 and 18 pagers explosions that maimed some 3,000 Hezbollah operatives in Lebanon and killed a few dozen was almost two years in the making, The Washington Post reported Sunday in an exclusive report.

Citing unnamed American, Israeli and Lebanese security and other sources, the paper reported that in February 2023, a marketing agent who used to work for the Gold Apollo pagers company in the Middle East and then formed her own company to sell them and other beepers, convinced Hezbollah officials to make a bulk purchase of 5,000 devices.

“She was the one in touch with Hezbollah, and explained to them why the bigger pager with the larger battery was better than the original model,” said an Israeli official.

Two major selling points of the AR924 model were their hard cases and their extra-long battery life, making them particularly suitable for months-long use in rugged conditions.

Retired Mossad agents to reveal secrets of Hezbollah pager operation in US interview

American outlet CBS announced on Thursday that a special episode of the investigative program "60 Minutes" will air in the United States on Sunday, revealing behind-the-scenes secrets of the pager operation that launched Israel's intensified campaign against Hezbollah in Lebanon. While Israel has yet to officially claim responsibility for the operation, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has referred to it in the past.

According to the network, recently retired Mossad agents were interviewed for the program, speaking under condition of anonymity about how the covert operation was carried out and the decade-long preparations leading up to it. Instagram posts showed the agents and interviewer Lesley Stahl, who was reportedly holding one of the beepers allegedly prepared by Mossad.

The investigation is scheduled to air Sunday at 7:30 p.m. local time (2:30 a.m. Israel time, early Monday morning). Axios quoted one agent as saying they tested the devices "multiple times in order to make sure there is minimum damage. If we push the button the only one that will get injured is the terrorist himself. Even if his wife or his daughter will be just next to him, he's the only one that going to be harmed."

Wow, hope they don't leak anything they shouldn't. I don't like that CBS is doing an investigation into how it all worked.

Even though these Mossad agents are "recently retired" and speaking anonymously, that could still damage Israeli agents in the field or limit future operations. By knowing how everything went down, removing the guess work, it gives useful information to Israel's enemies.

Why am I not surprised the American mainstream media is involved?

Makes me wonder why these Mossad agents "retired" recently. Did they have issues with their commander in chief? Are they part of the plot to remove Netanyahu? Do they not see eye to eye with the concept of Israel's safety and security? How did CBS know who to contact? Who provided their names for interview purposes. Did they seek out CBS or were they contacted by CBS?

This whole thing reeks!

Every government has their leakers. Israel has had their share of them and one reason Netenyahu has had to fire some people that he couldn't trust.
I agree with you. I also hope these Mossad agents didn't say anything damaging for Israel's national security. The
Mossad is like the US CIA and our CIA has done some really disturbing things not only in the US but abroad too.
I'm sure these anonymous agents will be outed sooner or later.
Nothing stays hidden. The truth always comes out.

Recounting exploding Hezbollah pagers, Mossad agents say Nasrallah saw people collapse beside him

Two recently retired Mossad agents are interviewed anonymously by CBS News’ 60 Minutes and recount the operation that resulted in the detonation of thousands of handheld communications devices used by Lebanon’s Hezbollah terror group, injuring and maiming thousands of its operatives.

“The aim, it wasn’t killing Hezbollah terrorists,” says one of the agents, referred to as Gabriel (not his real name) in the interview, wearing a mask and speaking in broken English with his voice altered. “If he just dead, so he’s dead. But if he’s wounded, you have to take him to the hospital, take care of him. You need to invest money and efforts. And those people without hands and eyes are living proof, walking in Lebanon, of ‘don’t mess with us.’ They are walking proof of our superiority all around the Middle East.”

On September 17 — almost a year after Hezbollah, unprovoked, started launching daily attacks on Israel — numerous pagers bought in the past year blew up in the hands of Hezbollah members throughout Lebanon. The following day, thousands of walkie-talkies bought a decade earlier similarly exploded.

Turns out both sets of devices were made and sold by the Israeli spy agency.

“So Israel sold this device to Hezbollah. Hezbollah paid for the — this weapon that was to be used against them,” says host Lesley Stahl.

“They got a good price,” replies the second agent, referred to as Michael.
